Tottenham very interested in Ibrahim Sangaré (Toulouse)

Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have intense interest in Ivorian midfielder and Toulouse man Ibrahim Sangaré, according to our colleague Mohamed Toubache-TER.

Spurs have been following the 22-year-old for an extended period of time, but there is nothing concrete at the moment.

Les Violets do not feel under pressure to sell him, but if they were to come to the negotiating table, a fee of between €15m to €20m excluding bonuses will be the target.

That's probably the case for loads of clubs.

I’m surprised there’s not more noise about him.

Should be somewhat easily available and looks like one of the best DM prospects in world football atm.

Surprised there aren’t a whole lot more teams after him.

Can't see us signing him given that's we've bought Hojbjerg and have other quite pressing priorities, but he's a player for sure.

Hojbjerg can't play every game any more than Kane.

We can't go back to Sissoko and Winks every time PEH gets a knock.

We got linked with him about a year ago and I watched him shortly after. I think he's massively over rated. He's one of those players that peaks at around 21 years old. I think Skipp has way more potential.

This is one thing that worries me slightly.

We have 8 games in 15 days or whatever, no chance will Hoejbjerg play all of them.

The alternative of course is we go back to Sissoko and Winks but we are really back at square one.

Hope we can find a solution.

Toulouse aren't 'under pressure' to sell as they've just been bought out by Redbird Capital Partners, who aren't poor. However, just because they don't need to sell him, doesn't mean they won't come under pressure from the player and agent to make it happen, not least because they were relegated last year.

Interestingly, Redbird's first move at Toulouse was to install a new club president who knows Tottenham and Daniel Levy very well indeed - one Damien Comolli. Earlier this year, Comolli gave an interview in which he said that Spurs should have a statue of Daniel Levy outside the stadium as no other chief executive had advanced their club so much in the past two decades. So they're obviously still on good terms.

I don't watch French football so have no view of the player, other than to note that I do like a good 'Volare' chant and he'd fit perfectly.

Woh-oh-oh-oh.

I think I read somewhere he is entering the final 12 months of his current contract
You know I could go research it and confirm but at this point we've said this in every player thread with varying degrees of accuracy and I think we should just continue that trend and also not bother correcting it if inaccurate.

I was surprised by the quoted price because there have been multiple reports that he's into the final year of his contract. I looked into it and although Transfermarkt has his contract down as expiring in June 2021 (and multiple shit outlets like the Express have said the same, presumably after a cursory Google search), a number of reports linking him to Everton last summer make reference to the fact that he'd recently extended to 2022. I can't actually find the primary source announcement of that extension from Toulouse, but this fan site also has him down as 2022.

It appears that Transfermarkt is wrong and he's actually got two years left. Even still, €15m is £13.5m, still a bargain signing for a talented 22 year old.

Cant personally see this one happening unless we end up offloading ndombele, a midfield 3 of Højbjerg - Sangare - Lo Celso will be very hard working/disciplined tho I worry about the creativity, mind Liverpool survive without creators ?

As mentioned Transfer Market say 2021 but others say he signed an extension to 2021

Ibrahim Sangaré, 22, from Cote d'Ivoire
➤ FC Toulouse, since 2016
➤ Defensive Midfield
➤ Market value: £8.55m
➤ * Dec 2, ... Contract expires: 30.06. 2021.

yeah but their fullbacks have ridiculous creativity. The midfield only works because of that. We can't build the same midfield with Ben Davies at LB, we need a different structure.

Have only seen a bit of him but he’s a proper CDM with strong defensive numbers, if we were to buy another midfielder it should be a player of his mould.

Only way I see this working is if we sold Ndombele and ended up signing 2 midfielders

I think shipping Sissoko out and bringing Sangare in would make lots of sense. Sissoko has been an excellent servant to the club but it’s time to move him on. I’m sure there would be suitors among mid-table clubs who would view him as a one-man guarantee of winning the physical battle in midfield and weapon on the counter.

Sangare is 9 years younger, better in terms of his defensive positioning and far more technically sound. Hope this has legs.
