Come on mate, it's a bargain and I would argue we could do with a DM. He plays for Toulouse he's not gonna want 200k a week is he. If he doesn't end up being great in all likelihood we'll still make a profit on him.

He's a talented kid and you can see him going to the likes of Newcastle, tearing it up and us being linked a year or two later for £30-40m.

There's no risk for that price, the only issue is the HG one.

Question is are we up for another Njie/ Nkoudou/ Stambouli story? I know every case is different but it is not like good players from ligue 1 have teared it apart for us. Maybe we are better off testing other markets, especially with the HG list being an issue right now.

I don't think it is to be honest. We have no idea if Sangare could make the step up or struggle just like the others we've bought from France.

Sissoko is a safe player for us right now. I agree we need to upgrade at some point but if this goes wrong then we'd be left with limited options.
If we have suitors for Sissoko then keeping him is very silly imo. The only argument you can make is his 'dressing room influence'. By any other metric he isn't good enough and his value is only going to massively decline from this point onwards. We should be looking to shift him ASAP if we get a bid that's around his current market value.

This is where we need to be creative when we are working to a zero net spend. Sissoko has been a good servant but realistically is 4th choice. If we can replace him with a younger, cheaper player who has the potential to improve, while also doing a job now then we need to do it.

Haven't seen a whole lot of him but what I have reminds me of Doucoure, which isn't a bad thing. Should be all over it.

How many of our cut price deals from France have turned out to be bargains though? We spent about 2 years trying to shift GKN, and sold him at a loss, and did the same thing with N'Jie.

He may turn out to be better than both, but it's not the no-brainer you're making it out to be, imo.

Get him in as a backup DM for this season. Even if he doesn't set the world alight you can probably sell him on for a profit next summer. It's the kind of thing Chelsea do and it helps them balance the books on transfers. Feels like a no brainer with Skipp now out on loan.

As for the Njie and Nkoudou mentions I think it is a lot easier for an attacker to come across as a flop when stepping up to the PL. With a CM they just have to look comfortable and steady. Sangare certainly has the athleticism for this league.

Agreed. Also a much diff profile than our N’obody deals. This guy has been a nailed on starter for 2 years. We need an extra body at DM. Almost no chance his value is going to go down in one season.

He’s useful as a backup DM, and his price is a mkt dislocation due to contract/relegation/Covid. It’s smart business.

Genuinely how many of you losing it over this “bargain” price have watched more than one Toulouse match over the last 12 months?

His team have just gotten relegated and with him playing as the sole DM they shipped 2.1 goals per match over the season and haven’t won a match since October 2019. I’m not suggesting this can all be blamed on him nor that it disqualified buying any player.. but when it’s a DM I do start to worry, because chances are he’s negatively involved in at least a few of those 2.1 goals per match, or has limitations with positioning and/or work rate that allow him to be easily bypassed. Don’t get me wrong I don’t know much about the guy - all I have is this YouTube video and I honestly think he looks a bit slow and lumbering. Worrisome when you look at similar players like Bakayoko and Imbula flaming out. Again at this price he could be worth a punt, but he’s clearly a potential for the future signing. I’d worry about how this could affect ball-playing DM Oliver Skipp coming through next season as well.

I think the price is the attractive thing though isn’t it. Imbula and Bakayoko ended up costing their clubs small fortunes and this guy won’t.

But surely his price is reflected by market demand for his services.

Toulouse supporters on Reddit saying that the report is wrong and that he extended his contract in 2019 so that it expires in 2022, not next year.

But nation squad has nothing to do with question Sangare could or couldnt make the step up. We have just signed right back who couldnt make squad over Coleman

Sorry to bump this without any further links, but for less than £10m I still have no idea why we’re not willing to have a punt on this guy, yesterday showed we clearly need more depth in midfield and although this guy is primarily defensive his passing is often incisive as well. Would’ve been much better subbed on instead of Sissoko and would have given us solidity on the transition and allowed Ndombele more license when he came on

Totally agree. This is the sort of player we still need to add, and his fee is apparently very reasonable. Like a more technical Sissoko without sacrificing the workrate and athleticism.

The club are scrimping and scraping to buy a striker, do you think we'll spend any money on another DM?

I have my doubts about Sanagare but I do agree we need more bodies in there.

I know we won’t but it’s just so frustrating seeing the same mediocre players playing week in week out when cheap alternatives are on the market who will have promising re-sale value at the very least

I’m sure we could sell Sissoko for more than it would cost to buy Sangare, and after until a setting he’d likely be an upgrade.
