Season 2018-19, bar a certain game in early June, is finally finished. It’s been an interesting one to say the least, and one way of appropriating it is to compare it to a film.

For me, this season has been like The Empire Strikes Back. We were caught on the back foot early on, had to scrap to survive early oblivion and find new things out about the world we inhabited. We got beaten and busted at times, lost metaphorical limbs, descended into a cave of Freudian nightmares, but also dug in and showed real bravery. At a time when our enemies threw the full force of their power at us, we managed to dodge and duck the lazer bolts of outrageous fortune, find refuge in the clunk and metal of a cup dream and rally, altered and wiser, at the end. I just hope June 1 will be more Jabba’s Palace than Order 66.

So, king and queen nerds, which film would you compare this season to?

Technically a series but Band of Brothers would be a good shout as well, with Poch as Major Dick Winters

I'd have to go with Buttman's European Vacation (1991)

Started off annoyed and far from home but came out strong and beat off everyone who came at us which nobody expected.

Finally got home and slipped in like we've never been away, spanking a few on their visits (West Ham caught us with our trousers down but less said about that the better). This was all punctuated with absolute scenes on the road including a late finish in Amsterdam that left everyone flat on their backs and gasping for air. Limbs everywhere in Manchester and the look on Pep's face after he prematurely exploded was priceless.

Despite all that we couldn't keep the pace in the last third of the season, all the other guys were coming from way back and nearly squeezed through us, but we held on tight despite being a bit loose after such a long session season and beat them off again. We beat off so so many comers this year!

Who knows what will happen in Madrid but one thing i do know is I'll need a change of underwear by the time the full time whistle goes.
