Defoe was the shittest! Walker was poor, Gallas was old and crap, Brad was old and not very good, parker was old and gave the ball away so many times (but at least tried). Dembele wasn't very good first half but got lots better. Ade was better than usual but still poor. Livermore was just about average. Holtby needs to pause, take a breath and think then run about. Verts took his eye off the ball once, naughton was young and average. Siggy was ok.

Dembele has to start in the middle.
We are nothing without pace going forward.
Gallas needs to retire.
Defoe is poo.
Livermore is not good enough.
Walker needs to get back quicker when going forward.
Holtby is off the pace and can see now why he isn't starting.

We won :)

I really don't know what I'm more annoyed by ? It could be ITV 4's coverage and Jim Beglin's 'expert' analysis ? Or those horrendous Ladbrokes mobile adverts that are now ten times more annoying than the 'go compare' italian singer. Or the way Spurs make us all sweat when we should have a relaxed Thursday evening. Or Kyle Walker's brain-farts ? Or the way Lewis Holtby has declined since he started. Or our central defence tonight. Or our central midfield tonight ? Or Defoe and Ade as a pairing up front. Or AVB playing his high line in a match like that ? Or UEFA plucking refs from the street ? Or they way I ran out of booze by half time ?

And yet ? A few years ago, Spurs would have been Arsenal going out in glorious failure. Arsenal would be Spurs, going through despite making a dog's breakfast of the job. The ref had a good extra time. And Kyle is a good player most of the time. So is Holtby. And AVB's plan of playing Ade until he scored worked at last. And the same will happen with Defoe soon. And I nipped out to the off licence to buy a bottle and when I came back Steaua had equalised against Chelsea.

So if they just get rid of the frigging Ladbrokes adverts I'll be happy. And I'll have my energy back for Sunday if the boys will.

I thought Parker was a very mixed bag tonight. The amount of times he slows our play down is incredible and he does make the wrong choices a lot of the time and lost it too often - and just when you're getting exasperated he does something pretty decent on the ball - one particular bit of play in the second was brilliant. Off the ball he's still the best we have available by a distance.

Livermore did nothing except move the ball. He sat the whole game in Parkers defensive midfield spot. Parker threw himself in to the game, tackled, harassed, tried to get the ball going about, was always available for the ball, ran with the ball when he had space and supported the attacks. He's not good at forward play so struggled but he never hid, the opposite in fact. That's the difference

Parker has played in advance of Livermore when paired together, was the same on Sunday vs 'Pool. Parker has even been in advance of Dembele recently. Clearly tactical from AVB. Parker goes hunting around, other one sits.

I don't remember him making many tackles in all truth or offering protection to the defence, chasing shadows a lot of the time. And his passing although accurate was slow and sometimes the wrong option, particulatly when a switch of play was on. In all truth it was accurate, safe passing with a few poor ones, Livermore was the same, minus the hyperactivity.

Off the Beeb: "Josh, a Spurs fan in Kent, via text: "For the first time in my life, tonight I wanted Tottenham to lose and Chelsea to win."

Yeah, dont think "Josh" is a Spurs supporter really..

Dembele has everything to be a world class player, but to become one of those he really need to practice the final passes in the end of the pitch. He never play the deep ball behind the central defenders and that makes it difficult for ADE, for example to get to chances. Holtby is a player that can find the key passes and deliver behind the back line but i think he tryes to hard at the moment, he need time to sattle in but will become a great player for us. COYS keep it up and i hope we have a fantastic game against Fulham this weekend :)

So many bad things about tonight. Going out after that performance would have had a huge impact on morale. As result stands, still a lot of questions need answering and some players need to question their performance. This is the business end of the season and can't put in performances like that!

It wasn't a great by any stretch but we've just gone through which looked pretty unlikely at one point, so its not all bad. We've been excellent of late so a bad performance isn't exactly a criminal offence at the moment is it?

Enjoy that we are through.

Hehe, anyone got Al Jazeera on? They just interviewed AVB (who now looks about 6000 years old after tonight) and he suggested that the 'organisation, which is down to me' may have been wrong.

He's partly right, but I hope he doesn't let them off for being dire.

Now this has got to be the worst game since AVB's appointment. Never again we'll be that poor. So everything looking up. We'll win Europa and get CL next season. Come On You Spurs.

That was without doubt the most Tottenham a performance I've ever seen :) I was sure we'd go to pens and lose there but fair play. Like others have aid yeah we played shit for large parts of the game but screw it we're through and we've played well and been beaten so many times before I couldn't really care.

We are now two opponents away from a major cup final. I think Villas Boas needs to seriously consider playing Lloris from here on in or drop the high line tactics. We can't continue to try playing the same way with a completely different type of keeper, it will cost us any shot at this tournament. Lloris is flying out to every game anyway so it's not like he's really being rested.

He's a keeper.

The only way to fix a mistake is to know you've made one in the first place.

edit: Not like the crap 'arry used to spout.

I suspect Gallas wasn't 100% tonight, after pulling out of the Liverpool game at the weekend. People say he can't play the high line but for most of the season he been comfortable with it and called the offside trap well.

I'm not sure why it looked so vulnerable tonight, although the fullbacks positioning didn't help matters, and the midfield hardly offered a lot of protection or pressure on the ball. I think everyone just lost composure and decision making fell apart under pressure.
