Is there anyone you want from the relegated teams?

I am not for sure if this should be in here or in general footy but mods please move it if need be.

Anyway is there anyone you would want off the 3 relegated teams? Downing would be the first choice for most but I really wouldn't be bothered if we didn't overpay for him and went more for a Barry type of all arounder for the midfield.

I would also think about Steven Taylor from Newcastle but don't think he would want to be a Dawson type of backup after playing so much for the Barcodes.

I would also consider Johnson from Boro but again it would be for a squad role to come off the bench and fill in when needed and not be a starter.

Bassong might be worth a shot but think he is destined for other pastures.

Is there anyone else I am missing?

I'd definatelygo for Duff. He'd slot in nicely on the left wing, is acclimatised to the premier league and must knocking on for 30 now so we could reduce his matches season by season and blood some of the youth teamers there.

I like martins too but I reckon he's off to everton (although I have absolutely no grounds for this)

Newcastle: Bassong if he'd be willing to be backup, otherwise nobody.
Boro: Downing if cheap enough, otherwise nobody.
West Brom: Brunt maybe if Bentley leaves, otherwise nobody.

Only one of two newcastle players. Either Jose Enrique from Newcastle who I think is very good and would be good competition for Ekotto and allow Bale to try and make left wing his own, or Bassong who seems very talented and could cover both centre back and left back as well as perhaps being a long term successor to our dodgy knee'd captain.

if we're selling taarabt and GDS then johnson would be a good shout. maybe bassong as a sub but doubt he'd be happy with that.
and i know this will go down like a shit sandwich but hoyte of boro for a sub left back could be an option. i know he has scum connections but i can get over that

Plus Hoyte's an RB, not an LB.

Not good enough. I don't care if he's ex-Scum or not, he's just not good enough.

Brunt, Tuncay, Wheater, Turnbull, Johnson, Bassong I can all see on the wish lists of a few clubs this summer as well as Martins, Downing etc....

Generally no. I can't see any that are what we NEED. That's not to say there aren't some good players, but none it the positions we need to strengthen (#9 and DM).

Saying that, I'd agree with BBLG that a cut price Jose Enrique would be a good (effective) replacement for Gilberto as BAE's backup.

I'd want Steven Taylor, I was very impressed with his charactor and determination during an U21 tournement a couple of years ago where he played on when injured and i also think he took a penalty as well.

Tuncay and I would have wanted Downing but he could be inured for up to 6 months.

Why do people want Johnson? Every time a young player who can dribble comes along, it seem he gets massively over rated. He's never made a Prem assist. That is a bit shit for a winger. He's not even that young. Lennon was born just 3 months before him. He's only played for England U21 11 times. By the time Downing was that age he'd made a shit load of assists, scored goals and played for England. Lennon has been a first team regular, in a decetn side, for 4 years and made and scored plenty of goals. Johnson is not even a regular starter for a team that has just been relegated.

I wouldn't want any Newcastle players - they showed an appalling attitude and really didn't look that bothered at the end. I like Tuncay but don't think he's what we need.

So, no - but thanks
