Mike McGrath's transfer notebook: Islam Slimani, on loan at Monaco from Leicester, attracting Spurs interest

Leicester are braced for interest from Tottenham for on-loan striker Islam Slimani. The Algeria striker, 31, is at Monaco for the season but Aston Villa were interested in cutting his move short for a return to the Premier League.

Spurs have also looked at the French market as they step up their hunt for a striker to cover for Harry Kane, who is out for three months with a ruptured hamstring.

Jose Mourinho wants a targetman to bolster his attack for the second half of the season without Kane, with his club working through a list of possible targets and gauging availability for a forward with the quality to play in the Premier League and Champions League.

Slimani is on their radar but Leicester may resist strengthening a rival in the top-four race, even if Mourinho’s team are off the pace at the moment.

I really hoped that reaching the champions league final would really put us on the map to top talent here in the UK & in Europe, & use it as a catalyst to take us to another level, the fact we are being linked to Slimani is just laughable, Daniel Levy should hold his head in shame !!!

He was very good at Sporting, albeit in what was a very good team at the time. He was never going to work at Leicester though, as he's very much a lone striker and Vardy, like Kane, was always going to be starting. If you look at it like that, him just coming in on loan while Kane is out, it could work. Speedy players around him suit him too. I wouldn't hate this.

It's too late mate, we had a shot at Messi but Levy fucked it up, Slimani just won't cut it, we're doomed like the cheese room.

Been in decent form for Monaco but he's already fluffed his lines in the EPL for Leicester and now we're potentially going to rely on him for the rest of the season? The owners need to piss off and asap.

When he is holding the Spurs shirt up and is in the Poch pose I'll go have a look at his vids and figure out whether I can put up with him playing up front for four months ...
