Been a few suggestions that he had already signed or was very close. Would that be likely if the picture is very recent?

If he’d signed I don’t think we’d be letting him train with Villa.

According to @Hercules and perhaps others it looks pretty close. Maybe we’ve got the personal contract sorted and just need to arrange something with Villa.

I’m still not 100% sure on this signing but if he’s coming I hope it’s sorted soon. Last thing we need is him coming in late and not having pre-season with us. We all know how that works out.

There was an interview with Andy Robertson a couple weeks ago, where he said he knew that he was definitely joining Liverpool, but still had to do 3 weeks of pre-season with Hull. So you never know(y)

A top 3 finish?

I'm not sure it matters too much. Of course it's better to get signings in sooner rather than later. But it's not like he's needed in the team straight away. As long as he gets his fitness levels up (he seems to be the type to stay in shape anyway) he'll be fine.

but those joined late were insignificant to our final league position...

So why does it matter that they joined late then?

I don’t see the issue in people wanting players in the door earlier so they’re involved in pre season and therefore involved in early season.

Every late signing we have takes 2 months to get up to speed.

I don’t see why you give the impression that people are knocking the club for wanting that.

How you get that impression from my post I really dont know. I just disagreed on the importance was all. I also said it's good to get players in early, just stating that I dont think it's that important.

He's on good terms with Villa anyway so I'm not too fussed if he starts pre-season with them. I'd be more concerned if he had a falling out with his club and they left him out in the cold. He'll be fine regardless when he officially joins us.

imo because it is possible that they could do better if they had a proper pre-season under poch
I'm not sure about that. So you think that without a pre-season with us it will take them a whole season to find their feet?

Pre-season is more about getting fitness levels back up after the break. I'm sure he will do that anyway even if it's with Villa for a bit. Absolutely it's ideal to get in early and get on the same page as your team mates. But it wont make a great difference, certainly not to the extent it will affect our final finish in the season. Besides I think he'll be more important to us as the season picks up and the cup games come up. By which time he'll have been with us for over a month anyway.
