I'd have happily taken Ben Arfa. Yet another lefty, but could certainly have improved our winger options. Has that element in the tight spaces we don't have at the moment.

Nah, he's really no good. He's also perpetually injured. I'm desperate for an addition to the attacking options, but I'm not desperate enough for Ben Arfa.

His fitness record isn't great, it's true, but I maintain that he possesses an aspect to his skillset we don't currently have at the moment. We have absolutely no one who can dive into a stacked box and work their way through. He's certainly not the best, but he can do it better than any of our current options.

If that's the case, we should be embarrassed about the fee paid for Lamela.

Ben Arfa has flopped for a long time in this league and couldn't get into a struggling Newcastle side. A couple of worldies doesn't change that and surely we already have better.

Jesus. Why do we even have this place if we assume those we disagree with within our own fanbase rate a player off the back of a "couple of worldies?"

So that we can respond to each other's opinions. I never meant that is solely what you based yours on, but you were talking about him going into the area and beating men - I assumed you were referring to a couple of great goals he scored. I didn't think I needed to write an essay on his obvious skill but consistent lack of application and ability to influence his side in a meaningful way.

Look, I don't want to get pedantic n shit, but there's a massive middle ground between suggesting someone is basing their opinion off a "couple worldies" and writing an essay.

I say we don't have a dribbler in tight space, but maintain Ben Arfa possesses that ability. If you disagree with that, and that alone, so be it. I also conceded he has a poor injury record (very poor), but nonetheless he possesses that ability. I feel very strongly we still need that dribbler to take on the back lines.

OK, I disagree with it. I think he's shown that ability only a handful of times in his whole time at Newcastle, I question how you can think differently, but there you go. I also think Lamela has shown that ability and has potential to do it more consistently.

Hope you're right man. But as of now, I'm not sure Lamela has that ability to work through the tight spaces like a top notch dribbler would. As is, I prefer his new starting position more reserved, almost alongside Eriksen. I think his creativity and overlapping runs can be extremely dangerous. Feel that, combined with this pacey, determined dribbler, could be extremely effective.

Would have loved Sane to happen to be honest. Feel he is exactly the kind of player Eriksen and Lamela could have benefited from working with.

Given the soton attitude towards us in this transfer period I am not confident they we allow us JRod in Jan.
To me he is a must during that period. It now be up to JRod to force a move to THFC.
Shame about Schneiderlin as well. Would still love the guy to come to us.

J-Rod's contract is up in the summer, so I expect us to be working on a pre contract between now and January, announce that, then force their hand. Anything we offer may just be better than them getting nothing next summer, same as we did with Holtby from Schalke. I'm still certain this scenario is why we didn't bother going for Welbeck. J-Rod is more appealing to Pochettino, so rather wait for him.

His contract is up in 2016.

Plus you cannot discuss a pre contract with a player in the same league without consent from the players club

Can see j rod coming in in jan and Townsend out somewhere for around the same price if j rod recovers well from his injury

This seems to have stuck.

J-Rod contract is not up.

Expires 2016.

12 months for him to get fit and sold to a bigger club.

You're happy to wait a year to fill the LWF role?

I'm pretty sure Lloris, Vertonghen, Erikssen won't be.

Yeah I know it's only The Sun but they are reporting that City are interested in him due to their lack of English players in their squad. I wonder if he'd be happy sitting on their bench for the next three years earning millions or playing every week for us and still earning a million or two

I think we all know what his agent would like
PS! Strange though that ManC "found" that out just after the window closed...

Assuming the Man City link is nonsense but if it wasn't then I'd hope J-Rod's advisors would simply say.......Jack Rodwell, Scott Sinclair.......if you'd like to be either of these players then move to City.

Simples.

I would expect his agent to say 'Look Jay, you've just come back from a debilitating injury that may very well shorten your career, take the big money now while it's on offer and it will set you up for life.'

Sadly, that's probably true. Hopefully the kid has more sense and would actually like to play football for the rest of his career. We'll see.
