Why is he so hated? As a player I think of him to be exceptionally average/overrated but I'm assuming he's done or been doing something despicable, I'm just not aware of it.

I’m pretty sure it’s just because he is not good enough for us or any of the top 6. The only reason a top club would have him is because he is HG. If he was French he would be playing for Brighton/Burnley

He’s also posted some cringe stuff on social media, nothing bad specifically but stuff where you would think, come on man grow up a little or be more cautious what you share.

Anyway, football wise it’s a definite no from me, so hopefully this is indeed nothing more than agent/media talk.

Unless Jose has seen something that nobody else has seen, when he was at man u, this seems very unlikely.

I think (hope) he was offered to us and we quickly said no.

It is funny when his biggest asset to us is being home grown.

Didn't his form and playing time drastically drop after Mourinho left / Solskjaer took over? (I may be wrong)
I don't see him as a a top 6 player, but perhaps he showed Mourinho enough to suggest he can be a useful rotation player. If that's the case, Levy may be able to drive a good bargain, with Lingard out of favour with his current club/manager and his contract expiring next summer (unless they trigger a one-year extension clause - reportedly).
Not a signing I'd be in favour of...just trying to see the potential logic in it.

Hes never been in form, apart from a 2 month purple patch under Jose.

Clearly his agent using our name to get some traction.

I wouldn't say he's hated - he's just, as I mentioned, ALDI version of Dele.

He's much crapper than Dele ever has been, but whilst being crap he's mostly promoting his 'JLingz' merchandise/clothing and, apparently, playing Fornite.

Whilst none of that is particularly offensive, people generally get annoyed when footballers come across as being more interested in their celebrity than their performances. He can't really help that perception as, as mentioned above, he's always been a bit crap.

I did also annoy people that, whilst being a bit crap, he managed to get picked a lot for England, so it mean he could also be a bit crap there too and annoy a broader range of football fan.

He's 28 soon, too. People tend to not realise that, as he only broke into the Utd side when he was 23 or 24.

I told my brother in law a couple of years back that Lingard was a sign of how far they had fallen. He'd have been shipped out years before under Fergie as he's bang average and not top club material.

He was hardly awful for England in the 2018 World Cup. Not a star player, but I would have said he was in form and deserved his place in the squad.

Banter aside, Lingard is pretty underrated. His off the ball movement is great, he’s quite fast and nimble and is a pressing machine. Gets a bad rep as a player because of his social presence.
He can't be as bad as I think he is.

I don’t know if I thought I’d ever say anything like this but offloading underperformers like Dele, Ndombele and Lo Celso and replacing with Lingard, another addition and/or Sarr (who can play more advanced) and Gil would be fine with me. Free up some money for a bigger purchase in attack/defense/central midfield.

He was on fire when he joined west ham last January, presumably because he wanted to try and make the England squad for the summer and he did an excellent job in staking a claim. I get the feeling he may do something similar for Qatar in December.
