@PA_dugout: Sad news reported by the family of Jimmy Greaves, who has had a "severe stroke" and is in intensive care aged 75. http://t.co/C8NAcZsEW

@PA_dugout: Greaves was due to be inducted into the @SpursOfficial Hall of Fame on May 13 and, of course, scored 44 goals in 57 games for England.

Yet another dreadful day. Jimmy, I remember you and your gentle sense of humour well from the chats we had in The White Hart in the 60s and how wonderful a footballer and all-round sportsman you were. PLEASE get well and stay with us a little longer.

We are losing all the legends and it's heartbreaking, although inevitable...

Such sad news I hope Jimmy makes a speedy recovery. As a kid he was my hero all I ever wanted to be was Jimmy Greaves. The only reason I buy The People is to read his column. Get well soon Jim.

Of course I'm praying he will make a good recovery but be aware that it can take a long time and he'll need loads of therapy. How he is affected long-term depends on which part of the brain is damaged - could be motor skills, speech, memory...

Mo had his stroke when he was 65. Ten years on, he has never recovered the use of his left hand and arm and his memory is definitely affected too. The outcome after a severe stroke is difficult to assess but Jimmy has great strength of character and hopefully will work hard in recovery and have a positive attitude. He'll get massive support from his loving family and from the footballing fraternity worldwide.

He has overcome so much, especially alcoholism, but this will be by far his hardest battle. Please make it Jimmy,

This is the worst news I could have read this morning. Jimbo was my footballing hero and the only Spurs player that I ever really wanted to meet.. Legend doesn't even start to describe the man. Get well Jimmy, so many people's thoughts and prayers are with you.
