Jonas isn't a bad player, but he certainly won't be displacing anyone in the team we already have. Yet when Ade goes off to AFCON we will be extremely short of striking options.

I would be all for a free transfer, providing he accepts he is 4th choice.

This. Obviously finding a free transfer after the window closes that would immediately improve the starting XI at a club of our level is simply a dire prospect at best, but what he would do is improve the squad, and especially in a position we may have a real problem at at some point in the season.

Personally, I would like to see us exercise this option. I still feel we're weak at wide options, have a bit of uncertainty at no 10 (although I'm hoping to see Mason integrated heavily), and we have a very impacting potential problem if Togo makes it through qualifying for the ACoN (with our strikers not being particularly consistent as is). Frankly, in my opinion despite hoping for other players, I think this option is too good to pass up given our needs.

No resale value. 2 other strikers aren't young either. That' why.

He's free. Won't be on high wages. Worth a punt given he can play both up top and behind.

Ftr, those including Ceballos, he's 21 now, and been with us for 3 seasons. Does that not either A) make him HG, or B) in the u21 section?

EDIT - Also just seen we've only named a 23 man squad too.

He's actually alright isn't he?
Yes he is, in his last three seasons at Valencia he got 10 or more goals and a few assists. So he is alright, nothing spectacular but he could be useful in the squad, much more useful than Ceballos at least.

Jonas was the key man for Soldado. They had great partnership. Each knew others movement and they worked beautifully together. He is VDV kind of player, not as technical as him but quite effective.

But we could send a player like Ceballos out on loan and make room in the squad so it isn't "nonsense", it's just very unlikely.

I don't think we are allowed to make any changes to the submitted list until the new year, regardless of how many people are in it it. The window for registration is closed (both PL and europa).

We could sign him and play him in league cup though.

I leave the experts about squad size amongst us to sort this out but if he plays so well with Soldado it could be great business to pick him up on a free

I think it is so strange that we didn't pick up any free agent at all. In June, it "felt" like the TW to do that, there were some half-decent names among those. I'd happily have Jonas as a squad player for a year, and it's a shame there is no room. His secondary position is LW, too. :banghead:

I'd rather we nurtured Harry Kane, he has a big future ahead of him.

Can't believe you got WTF'd for this... Your suggestion makes sense. I'd written Harry Kane off far too early, and I'm happy to admit that he's certainly looking like a player who could have a big future ahead of him. I'd wager the WTFer, hasn't even heard of this Jonas chap.

Scrambling around for a free transfer a week after the window has shut really isn't a very good look.

Everyone's at it. And I'd hardly call us scrambling. If there's a bargain out there, we and any other club would be foolish to not have a look at doing something.

Personally, it's all bullshit. We can't accommodate the guy into our squad as is being discussed. It's a non starter anyway.
