Scrambling around for a free transfer a week after the window has shut really isn't a very good look.

What makes you think we are actually trying to do this? As mentioned above, we have submitted our list and I think we are unlikely to sign him and not play him for 3 months.

i prefer to nurture Harry Kane and give him game time...I like the way he is progressing at the moment (y)

I think there's zero in this; just some newsnow article about Jonas being Soldado's foil (and on a free) days ago, has been picked up and spun about by the bigger boys who are lacking club stories.

We won't sign him because our quota of non-homegrown players has already been filled and the listed submitted.

the Free Transfer window is still open for another... 3 week? i am sure we can register him for the league. if not its just a few months to Jan, i can be his "preseason" for him, getting use to life in London and stuff....

just not too sure he is the player we have been looking for, think we can wait till Jan to get a forward.

TOTTENHAM SQUAD

25 squad players (* = Home grown)

Adebayor, Emmanuel

Bezerra Maciel Junior, Jose Paulo

Capoue, Etienne

Ceballos, Cristian

Chadli, Nacer

Chiriches, Vlad Iulian

Dembele, Moussa

Eriksen, Christian

Fazio, Federico

Friedel, Bradley Howard

Kaboul, Younes

Lamela, Erik

*Lennon, Aaron

Lloris, Hugo

*Mason, Ryan Glen

*Naughton, Kyle

*Rose, Daniel Lee

Soldado Rillo, Roberto

Stambouli, Benjamin

*Townsend, Andros

Vertonghen, Jan

Vorm, Michel

*Walker, Kyle Andrew

17 non homegrown players. No place for Jonas in our squad till January, no point buying him as we will probably go for someone else then.

Agreed. Although one thing I've been wondering is that I thought the rule was 8 home grown and 17 non HG, but if you only had 7 HG then it was 16 non HG (making a 23 man squad) then 6/15, 5/14 etc.

Baring this in mind, my thinking is that along with Walker, Townsend, Rose, Naughton, Mason & Lennon that Ceballos is a home grown player because otherwise we'd only be part of the 6/15 group and only allowed a 21 man squad.

This has been bugging me so if anyone can correct me, please do!

Given all this, we'd have to loan out one of our non HG players to sign any non HG free transfer or they'd only be permitted to play in the FA/League Cup (since we're at the limit for UEFA squad too), which is pretty pointless.

If this is true it sounds like a break glass in case of emergencies signing.

He won't be taking anyone's spot, but can come in for injuries/suspensions.

Good idea, especially given his flexibility.
I dont even like Soldado much, but a free transfer that could get Soldado scoring is a no brainer IMO. I've seen very little of Jonas so I know fuckall about the guy, but it looks to me that he could operate LWF and join up with the front man when he can.

The only 3 rules which matter are
Max of 17 non home growns
Max of 25 players too old not to be registered
Free number of players young enough not to be registered.
Within those 3 rules, you can assemble the squad whichever way you want.
(Ie. in theory, you may have 17 non home growns and 3 home grown, totalling 20 players).

(There is a 4th rule about the need to register a minimum of total number of players, but I reckon that rule is of little importance/most club wouldn't come close to the minimum number).

If we're interested then I think he would most likely be a stop gap until other players become available like Rodriguez.

Seems to have some end product which is encouraging.

So is Ceballos homegrown or not? Because he fits the criteria, yet all the media listing our squad says he's not?

He's 21 and been here for 3 years now, surely he's both u21 and homegrown?

He is not. He's been here three years, but due to transfer of registry by loaning him out last season, he is no longer eligible for HG status due to consequently only having been registered with us for two years before his 21st Bday.

I myself was corrected in this just a few days ago.

Because you still have to pay for wages. He would probably ask something like 3 year 12m contract. You actually have to pay that money.
Doubt it would be a 3 year contract if it happened, 1 year with maybe an option to extend at most.

Why would Jonas except offer like that? This is probably his last chance to take some serious money.
He's a free agent and the season has started, I'm guessing he's not fighting off the offers.
