Fair enough if he wants to call out the players for such a lethargic effort...............as long as he takes a look in the mirror and recognizes the architect of the performance. He coached the team, he prepared the team, he picked the team and he made the bizarre substitutions and tactical changes during the game.

He said that the 'lazy pressing' was because of 'bad fitness' and a 'bad' pre-season. Which begs the question why, if the players lack fitness, he apparently instructed them to use a high-energy tactic of pressing high.

As always with Mourinho (as with Redknapp when we had him) it's always the fault of the players. The coach/manager and his staff are always blameless.

Your argument isn't without merit ! However, having watched the pre season games i felt Son, Moura and Dele were definitely fit enough to press harder than they did against Everton (although Moura was the best of them imo). Kane not so much. On the whole you've got a set of players who've now gone through fairly lengthy periods of having their 'effort' questioned under the guidance of two very good managers. I know who i'm more inclined to point the finger at !

For how poor we were, in open play we matched them with shots on goal -having the better chances (another day, another result). Lloris didn't have a decent save to make and James-was he really that good-I feel a little overhyped ?.
We need a fearsome captain - someone who takes charge and gets players reacting to fury. A captain that expects and the players react. Kane is not that player-he doesn't kick backsides.

Team spirit and owning a pair is what its all about.
All please watch 'The Last Dance' Netflix documentary. (best ever sporting series) on Michael Jordan- Chicago Bulls last season.

He knows that the ultimate responsibility lies with him because if we don’t get the results then his job is on the line.

It shouldn't be down to the coach to take it all on their shoulders. Players need to step up and be counted. We need to go out on the pitch and be ready to battle every game, not when it suits. I want to be ruthless against BHA as much as Arsenal. I feel we have a decent core of players and have some valuable experience behind us, it just needs igniting with some fury. A coach can only do so much.
