Tbh the centre back cover is one area that bothers me. If we have Jan or Toby out, the other one doesn't seem to function as well in their absence. I know they're only pre-season friendlies, but Wimmer still doesn't look to have rediscovered his form. And CCV, who Poch last season said was ready for first team action, looks anything but to me. I still shudder at recollecting how he was bullied by Wycombe's forwards in the Cup last season. Dier also looks uncomfortable there and is prone to Walkeresqe brainfarts.

I really hope we get a good quality cb cover in soon; our present options fill me with dread, should we lose either of our main men for any length of time.

I very much doubt that Foyth would be any closer to solving that problem than what we already have. He's only played a handful of games.

Sure, it was really just a general observation that the CB situation is not, imo, as good as a club with title aspirations need to be.

Foyth strikes me more as a Dier understudy. Decent size and athleticism, and comfortable enough in possession to drop into midfield.
The link to Filip Benkovic seems more like a natural CB target to cover Toby and Jan.

I know playing in the EPL is a different thing, but maybe he's more developed that what I previously thought. There's a rumour here that he will be called to the national team. Maybe not right now but in the future as he had a meeting with Sampaoli

Ossie, are there noises in Argentina that he wants to come to us? It's been mentioned a few times here- just curious if this is something being discussed

Foyth has to make a career decision now.

He can go to PSG and probably earn more money now - but how will his game develop there?

Or he can come to Tottenham Hotspur and work under an Argentinian coach who has had great success in developing players. Pochettino will give playing time to players that are ready. And he will coach them so that are ready when called upon. Foyth may not earn as much with Spurs immediately but in the longer run one would expect him to become a much better player than if he moved to PSG. Just consider what Pochettino has done for players such as Harry Kane, Dele All, Eric Dier and more. They're young and earning big bucks. They'll be earning even bigger bucks in a few years.

The opportunity for a player to rise to his full potential is far greater at Tottenham Hotspur than at PSG.

In the longer run that means more cash for the player - and more cash for his agent.

Let's be honest, the best opportunity for him to rise to his full potential is to stay at his current club and break into the first team. There's no difference between us and PSG for a guy who hasn't even broken into his Argentinian first team yet.

Yes - maybe it would be best if he stayed where he was. But maybe not. Pochettino has proven to be an excellent coach that develops players. There is no doubt in that. If any individual has a chance to work under the best 'mentor' in the world (and Pochettino could very well be called that) then serious consideration must be given to that opportunity. That would apply to a football player as it would also apply to any other career.

I think you are being too biased.
PSG has only 3 CBs now. And 1 is a young one. They have more space for a new CB than we do.
They have also showed they can develop young players. Verrati and Aurier arrieved at PSG as 20yr olders. Areola and Rabiot came through their academy, and they have a few more young players from their academy in the first team squad right now.

You're correct. I am biased. And I must admit I know nothing of the player. But a successful club needs an excellent coach. Herbert Chapman is a good example. As coach of Huddersfield he won the League title in 1923-24 and 1924-25. In 1930-31 and 1932-33 he won the League again with Arsenal. Pochettino has done wonders with Tottenham Hotspur - not only in the league positions attained in the last few seasons - but in developing players. More success is before us.

I don't know what the PSG coach has done - but if I was a young player I'd jump at the chance to work under Pochettino.

I guess his club would want to sell to PSG and that is unlikely to change so if the player wants to come to us what we'd need to hope for is for PSG to move on leaving us in the clear. Not sure how likely that is though.

You cannot force a player to sign for a club they don't want to!

This is an article from today (in spanish)
http://www.eldia.com/nota/2017-7-26-3-23-50-debate-en-torno-a-la-venta-de-foyth-deportes

It says in a part that "sources close to the player say he doesn't want to play for PSG as there are several players in his postion"
"he is seduced by the prospect of playing in the premier league"

Nothing about Pochettino though.
The first quote seems odd though, as PSG doesn't have several players in his position
https://www.transfermarkt.com/fc-paris-saint-germain/startseite/verein/583

There are several things that make me believe that there's no bid from PSG. But it's just a guess

Btw, it's also being said that Foyth is now considered a starter. I'm adding this part as we've been discussing if he's ready to play for us

Games, games, games...funny how PSG interest in Foyth, Juve interest in Pereira and arsenal interest in barkley emerged...then naff all. Called that bluff I reckon. Especially with Foyth who has been sold to three separate teams already if you believe local media and their drumming up of interest.
