*️⃣ There is a verbal agreement for Juan Foyth to go on loan for one year and with a purchase option to Villarreal.
*️⃣ The only thing that remains is the final OK of the owner of Tottenham.

I would just keep Foyth if we don't get Skriniar then

I agree but only if he was going to play, and at this point Tanganga looks to be higher in the pecking order.

It won't do Foyth or the club any good for him to sit on the bench for another year. He either needs to play with us or be loaned/sold to someone who will give him regular minutes.

Wish we would have extended his contract prior to this. Even if he sets La Liga alight, he'll only have 1 year left on his contract come next summer (as far as I can tell), limiting his value if he is still not in Mourinho's plans at that point.

I’d assume the hope is that with a year of football under his belt, a few more international caps and hopefully a less depressed market, his sell value with one year on his deal will be higher than it currently is with two years.

I really feel Foyth could become our long term right back and hope we don't sell him. A loan seems more sensible imo.

Also maybe we have an option to extend his contract by one year.

Let’s hope he gets a good 30 odd games there this season and does well. We can then welcome him back into the squad next season

Its a shame in many ways, i like Foyth and probably didnt get a fair crack of the whip but defo wish him well. However i do query the fee of only £13.5M, i hope the deal has a sell on clause appended to it

Covid is upon us, we can't demand the same fees as before, we need to free up the non-hg slots.

Can’t have it both ways when we’re getting more established players in Højbjerg and Doherty for the dance kind of price range and have just committed only £3m for a year of Vinicius.

Hence why i say to have a sell on clause, because his potential is defo there with a proper run of games and the spanish league being slower in intensity might help him acheive that especially in the short term, and allows him to bloom

I hear you and not wanting to be greedy in the sense of have my cake an eat it as to say, its just being honest about the value/ value in potential of the guy, hence the sell on clause so the fee can be low initially. Given a proper run of games and a chance he will bloom

Hojberg we had the upper hand due to him being in the last yr of a contract and him stating he wouldnt sign a new one, thats standard in football regardless of covid, we got lucky yes but thats nothing to do with the covid climate

Doherty is 28 (29 in January) he has found his level, he is not going to improve in terms of potential, and the fact Mendes has helped the deal / JM again is nothing to do with covid climate as would happen without it.

Vicinius has option of circa 41M EURO so its not the same.

Yes Vinicius does have that option, but the initial outlay is peanuts. If you’re implying that potential (which is highly subjective anyway) is worth more than proven finished product, I have to say I absolutely disagree.

As for young Foyth, he’s 23 soon, and has played 23 league matches between us and Estudiantes. I’d say he’s missed out on a huge amount of football that he’d really needed by this point and that a middling club in a less physical league is probably the best he’s ever going to do.

another one were poch's loan policy cost us a good player. Always felt he needed to go out on loan get a run of games to iron out the errors and he'd be a top defender. Villarreal are getting a steal.
