Argentina are not famous for their solid defense. I can't name a single decent Argentinian RB. No one doubts that he has some physicality and ability and my dead grandmother has a greater footballing brain than Aurier. The question is if he is good enough to be a right back for a top 4 club. I've not seen anything to suggest he is. He is a CB forced to fill in at RB. Selling Foyth and Aurier and getting a real RB makes the most sense to me.
I don't think Foyth is good enough to start as a CB in a top 4 club either, which is fine because that's not what is expected of him now. He's had some bright performances at right back for us though, though has also had some issues there, as always same problems. Poor decision making and over enthusiasm. But these should be coach able as long as he is able to listen. His ability is there to see. He is not a very Jose type player though.

I think it's a pretty simple decision with Foyth. Loan him to a Championship or PL club to play for a season. We have barely seen him play and we will have no idea how good he is until he plays week in and week out. We might have our future RB/CB in the waiting or a complete flop. But we will never know without letting someone play him.

Some things about Foyth.

He is, definitely, a CB. He's NOT a RB. He played as RB in the last Copa América because we don't have a decent player in that position. He's just an alternative as RB; and played there because we have a lot of players in the central defense (Otamendi, Pezzella, etc) -and that was a mistake imo- and nobody as RB.

His physical conditions are ideal to be a central defender. How many players of almost 1,90 do you know playing as RB/LB? These kind of players must be fast and agile. Foyth has some good technical conditions with the ball in his feet, but I cannot see him running 70 meters and centering a cross into the box for Harry Kane. Yes, he tried to do it in the last Copa América but, as I said, that was because we have not any damn player there, and Argentina hasn't an aerial game (I don't know if you use this phrase in English when you talk about crossing and headers as the attacking strategic) because we have short players since Batistuta left the game. We miss Zabaleta and Zanetti on the RB.

A few months ago, he made an Instagram live with an Argentinian journalist, and he said he feels comfortably playing as CB. He could play as RB, but that isn't his position. As Dier played in different positions.

Agreed, because I can’t see him getting much game time with us, save the odd EL game here & there. He needs to play week in week out to learn & develop.
Can’t help thinking that we (under Poch) missed so many opportunities with him & others to do this, & if we had just maybe we wouldn’t be in the state we find ourselves in now.

Should've said that about Pochettino then.
Maybe I should have. We all should have done differently at times, that's life. But all I can say for sure right now is that you should move on because I really don't give a shit. :)

I think Foyth could be good but he's had quite a few chances to be fair and given we now have Dier Toby Sanchez and Tanganga + Davies can fill in at CB and we might sign another one there is no point loaning him out we should just sell him and use the cash, real shame as great baller but too many mistakes and still to raw for the level we need to be.

I think he has promise and potential and seems like a level headed young player.
BUT he has not blown my knickers off with his performances and frankly, as I think I have said before, we need the cash and he may be one of the biggest incomes we can get. Great shame but we have awarded new contracts to Toby, Dier and Japhet and have our second record signing in the squad and are looking for a fifth centre back.
this feels like a sensible decision albeit a little sad.

Still think he has the potential to become a world class centerhalf. Just don't think Mourinho is the right manager for him.

I agree with the loan way of thinking. But I think 15m would be difficult to turn down for a player who's 5th choice CB as things stand.

He requires too much investment and represents a much greater risk than the likes Tanganga, so he needs to go

I don't think sending him out on loan to Leeds would represent "too much investment" on our part. It would just mean forgoing the fee this summer, which admittedly may not be something we can afford at the moment.

He's hugely talented, you don't break into Argentina's first XI with such little experience if you haven't got something about your game. On loan working under Bielsa I think he'd thrive, and we'd either be in the position of incorporating him back into the squad once he's gained experience or selling him on for a lot more than we'd get right now. If we can afford it I'd rather he go out on loan so we can re-evaluate in a year's time.

This all is based on the assumption that he would get in the Leeds XI and stay there. His issue is that as a young defender who wants to get his foot on the ball he is going to make a fair few mistakes. They can cost goals and Leeds will be touch or go in terms of staying up. So is Bielsa really going to trust him when the chips are down?

if he got a full season of first team football, then we would see if he can turn promise into output. However the reality is that he will be a bit part player at Leeds and all we will be doing is delaying the inevitable. His price won’t go up and we will have failed to turn his sale into a reinvestment to support the manager.

I don’t think Jose feels he can trust him. So you have to back the manager.

How many times has Foyth actually played RB for us? Can only remember vs Man City away last season

...and being sent off against Bournemouth playing there, and losing the ball against Norwich where they scored playing there and on and on and on!
