He’s made no more mistakes than Aurier has it’s just we kept the faith with Serge plus we have way more options at CB than RB. There’s massive question marks around him but there’s also massive potential.

He’s made a fair few mistakes tbf, Wolves springs to mind and didn’t he stupidity get sent off at Bournemouth?

Under this manager though he’s only had the one chance. I don’t think there is anyone in our back four who hasn’t made multiple mistakes. At least with Foyth he makes his mistakes trying to be positive. Bringing the ball out, a progressive pass to get us going. I appreciate that more than players taking the easy option and passing the responsibility to one or two players. I wouldn’t mind as much if those other players were great as pure defenders but they make plenty of mistakes in that regard too.

Shame he will probably leave, bags of potential. If I'm honest our handling of youth under Poch was disgraceful, we didn't utilise the loan system anywhere near as much. This guy should have been out on loan as soon as he joined instead of rotting away on the bench and making the odd appearance every few months. It would have allowed us to accelerate his development instead of letting it stagnate and would also allow us to command a larger fee if we still wanted to sell him. Same has happened with Skipp, who granted is younger and from the academy but why wasn't he sent on loan this season instead of being used in ten minutes cameos every 5 games. Poch's policy of wanting young players to train with the squad has been proved to be foolish and should not have been pursued unless he was sure they (or the individual in question) are close to being consistent first team material. Another case is the example of KWP who until Jose came in and sanctioned a loan was similarly rotting away getting no minutes. Now he's had a promising loan and guess what we can probably sell him for £10-15m. The likes of Chelsea and Liverpool make a lot of money from hoarding young players, loaning them out and selling them for more than they are worth, or if they are good enough, keeping them and using them in the first team a la Mount and Abraham. Onomah and Edwards were two more that were mishandled by Poch, one of them is now tearing it up in Portugal and being linked to Dortmund and United and the other is doing very well for Fulham. It's very annoying.

Don't think there was anything wrong with the handling of Foyth. Wanted to evaluate and learn about him first year, last year played a decent amount of games & some important ones as well. This year he was on schedule to be a starter at 21.

I'll agree some were mishandled but don't agree at all with Foyth. I'd say Poch did more good for our younger players than he did bad. So I don't fully understand this whole notion now that Poch was terrible for our youth.

Of course he wasn't bad for our youth but I think we could have got a lot more out of some of them by utilising loans more

With Tanganga and Sanchez battling for minutes on the pitch I believe we can sell Foyth with needing a replacement. He only appeared 4 times for us in the league this season. If he stays with us any longer he'll just be stunting his growth.

Out of interest, are any of our other youth centre backs on the verge of coming through? Shame that Binks lad left as surely it would have been a great opportunity for him. Decision, decisions.

I like Foyth though, and don't necessarily want to see him shifted. Talented but erratic, and could probably really benefit from having King and Mourinho around if he's up for the challenge.

Walcott came in the cl this season, you’d hope it was cos he’s rated rather than just for the sake of it

We have two young CBs on the books, Foyth and CCV. One went on loan, seems to have done all that was expected well, but still isn't going to be rewarded with any first team minutes, the other trained with the first team, got Premiership minutes. Both are probably going to be sold this summer.

I don't think loans necessarily help but it will be interesting to see who commands a bigger fee. Foyth with limited perm minutes or CCV with a solid track record in the Championship.

I’ve seen nothing in this guy that makes me think he’ll be a top class CB. He might be a ‘pretty’ CB with a nice touch, but to me he’s another John Stones. He doesn’t dominate the air and he gives goals away with the ball at his feet.

I vote to move him on. Tanganga already done more than him and we have 5CB’s

huge potential as has already been understood by some observers. no problem selling him to a team like leeds for 15 million if there is a buy back clause of around 25 million agreed , i think he will most likely make good progress injuries not withstanding, and i see him as a composed, tidy distributer sitting infront of the defence , in the near future. versatile.

When was the last time a Premiership club sold a player with a buy back clause and then went on to use it?

Think we’d really need to loan him first. We’d get robbed for 15m as it currently stands and I don’t think getting rid at this juncture is the correct move

I find it honestly bizarre how often it’s casually thrown around by posters like it’s a common thing outside of Football Manager games.

It’s completely an exception and rarely makes sense for all 3 parties involved.

Man City sold Angelino to PSV in summer 2018 and triggered his buy back clause summer 2019. Pep has said in an interview they’ve got one on Douglas Luiz as well, but doubt they’ll be triggering it.

But you’re right, it’s not common at all and I’ve only heard of Chelsea and City using them.

I would loan him absolutely and finally see if he can cut it in the PL as a CB. But can we afford to do that and turn down the income that he would bring that could be used to strengthen other areas ?

If it is a choice between keeping him and loaning him out for a year or buying an untried player from China then I think I’d rather take our chances and keep him, see how he does on loan and re-evaluate next summer when if we want to sell him we might get more for him.
