I’ve seen nothing in this guy that makes me think he’ll be a top class CB. He might be a ‘pretty’ CB with a nice touch, but to me he’s another John Stones. He doesn’t dominate the air and he gives goals away with the ball at his feet.

I vote to move him on. Tanganga already done more than him and we have 5CB’s

Me too, a poor man’s John Stones. Stones has proved himself a lot more competent despite what people think of him.

Foyth has always looked average to me. Physically he is not dominating, very weak in the air. May be he will be good if he plays in 3 men cb, but right now he is nowhere near the finished article

Make Foyth a right back

Not for me. Way too slow, and too prone to late sliding tackles in positions where we risk conceding penalties.

The boy needs to play, but we cannot afford to let him make his learning mistakes here. So loan out or sell IMO.

For me, surely a loan makes more sense for us. Whilst he hasn't played much here, surely seeing how he gets on playing games, gives us a far better perspective as to whether we then sell him - one more season won't hurt.

He's definitely had a mistake in him, but what young CB hasn't? There's nowhere to hide at the back and the PL is a tough place to learn your trade. On the flip side, he has great control and composure and offers a few things you don't often see in a young CB, surely worth persevering with for another year on loan?

Safe to assume we are going to need to sell some players to buy and Foyth is on my list of players that won’t be immediately missed and might raise a semi-decent fee.

Don't disagree with this logic in spite of my post before it. We'll have to be fairly savvy about our business this summer and perhaps this is a likely outcome.

We have two young CBs on the books, Foyth and CCV. One went on loan, seems to have done all that was expected well, but still isn't going to be rewarded with any first team minutes, the other trained with the first team, got Premiership minutes. Both are probably going to be sold this summer.

I don't think loans necessarily help but it will be interesting to see who commands a bigger fee. Foyth with limited perm minutes or CCV with a solid track record in the Championship.

I'm pretty sure it will be the current Argentinian international who cost 12m and was chased by PSG and is now wanted by premier league Leeds as opposed to CCV who cost us nothing and has had a really mixed time with loans in the Championship.

Anything more than £3m for CCV is good business imo.

He’s one of those players I’m desperate to succeed for us. I find myself imagining this classy and assured centre back confidently spraying passes around like Hoddle and reading the game like a book. I find myself getting all misty-eyed about him embodying the Spurs way (whatever the hell that means) and seeing him as a future captain.

Then I remember he’s not really shown anywhere near enough, that I’m almost 40 and that I need to grow up. It’s worryingly similar to a conversation I had with myself about Steven Caulker just before I turned 30.

if we are selling Aurier , we should keep Foyth for the RB role

We need 2 in each position and I dont see us buying 2 RB assuming we sell KWP to Soton

I believe that Jose probably sees Tanganga as our RB cover, and he seemingly does not rate Foyth very highly.

How many players do we have that should be playing more football

Foyth, kwp, Skipp, tanganga, sess, cirkin, roles, Clarke, Parrott.

Seriously pissed off with how we managed onomah, Edwards and kwp. Hopefully Jose sorts it out. If they are not playing at least 15 games, ship em out on loan, but make sure they play.

Actually add ccv and a goalie and you could get a first 11 together...

GK
Foyth CCV Tanganga
Kwp. Cirkin
Skipp
Clarke. Roles. Sess
Parrott

Like he didn't rate Lo Celso til he gave him a few games.

Did he not say, "He just needs time to settle, it takes some players a while to get used to the PL. We know he is a very good player and want to help him settle in the team"

Obviously paraphrasing a lot there, but not once did he ever say he never rated Lo Celso - it was quite the opposite.

The problem with the young southamerican players is they are sold too soon to big Europeans teams with a squad full of stars and settled players.
Foyth needs to play, and Tottenham need to win; sometimes that isn't a good combination. When you're young you need to make mistakes, to fix your issues and to grown up slow but surely. How can Foyth do that with Jan and Toby? They are some of the best central backs of the world, and they know very well each other, because of the time playing together at Spurs and Belgium national team.

Unless you're Neymar or Messi, you just need time and minutes on the field. Foyth even played just a few games here in Argentina.
If you think about the Argentinian National team, all of the good players started from the bottom: Dybala was first at Palermo before Juventus, Lo Celso was first at Betis (because in PSG he had the same problem that Foyth has now at Spurs); Paredes was first at Zenit, Di María was first at Benfica. And even Aguero (the best player in the last ten years of the PL, imo) needed time at Spain to settle. And that's happen with all national teams.

There is another Argentinian centre-back, Balerdi, same age as Foyth; he was sold to Borussia Dortmund but, of course, he couldn't play because he hasn't experience and BVB has a solid team; so they loaned him this summer to Olympique de Marseille to get some minutes and experience.

I think we need to loan Foyth; and the best option, imo, is Leeds with Bielsa. He will turn Foyth to a world class defender. Trust me.

He has a very high ceiling. It's still unclear where his career might end up. But a lot of potential.

Again, I invite you to think about young players in terms of what they could become as well as what they are now. Foyth, is good enough to be part of the squad now, despite his errors. But obviously Jose wants something more reliable. Now, Foyth seems to have a top attitude and it might help him a lot.

I think Foyth could go right to the top, not just for his fancy work outside the box, but actually for his real aggression and ability in the tackle. I also don't think he is that weak in the air, just looks like he should be. But, the main thing is if the manager ain't convinced he is not convinced. We have a lot of good CB prospects and we need money and Foyth will command a decent fee, because he has a strong international reputation. So I would like to keep him, and probably with the main team, because the player hiimself wants to make a point, but if the coach has other ideas I'd support that as well.

It's sort of a shame because he was due a big season this year. I fully believe that Poch saw him as his main right back this season, but injuries and a change of manager got in the way, and it would have been interesting to see how he would have developed.

Ok I have the header stats.

Foyth last season in the PL (this seasons sample is too small)

he had a

57% header win rate. Which is meh but not super bad.

Other defenders (this season)

Sanchez 73%
Vertonghen 70%
Dier 61%
Toby 50%

Obviously care with these statistics, they include offensive headers, which can be harder to win, and it depends on who they are playing against or marking.

I agree that Foyth could do it better because of his height; but he has the weight problem: he needs to grow his muscles. Sanchez has the same height but he's 10kg heavier (idk if "heavier" is correctly in this sentence, sorry); and that's a problem in the box, when you need to fight for the position with stronger guys than you.

If you see the statistics of Foyth, or any young player, you'll see this problems. But that's the point to be a good manager; it's supposed to you to see the potential of the young players, despite of his statistics numbers. But Mou doesn't work in that way. He's a world class manager, of course, but he's a buyer one. And that's OK. But, imo, I prefer managers who have an eye on the young guys.

How were the statistics of Kane in his first season? and in his three first years? How about the statistics of Van Dijk before 2016? Sure, there're exceptions like De Ligt, but he has what Foyth doesn't: ten Hag; a former coach. Of course, I'm not saying Foyth is the next Sergio Ramos, but he has potential to be a world class defender, just need time, minutes, confidence and a good manager.
