Ridiculously good signing on paper for Dortmund but does anyone else get the slight feeling that some Bundesliga players might be a bit hesitant to come to the Prem bc of the high standard?

The Lewis Holtby Effect.

Yes, young players like Andre Schurrle, Lewis Holtby and Max Meyer haven’t been hugely successful in the Premier League.

No.
It’s to do with game time, familiarity and better chance to be selected in the Germany squad.

As for Dortmund’s scouting... yes it’s certainly decent, but signing the best young talent in the Bundesliga has never been an issue for them as Bayern are usually happy to swoop in once they’re established players/can’t sign everyone. So Dortmund do have relatively easy pickings.

If you’re young, talented and German, then you’re automatically looking for a move to Bayern or Dortmund.

Bummer, but no surprise. Great signing for Dortmund. May be the best value available on the market this whole window across Europe. Don’t know that their “scouts” really deserve the credit - he’s a known quantity and one of the best players in the league with a silly low release clause.

Can anybody confirm that we were actually in for him but he just wanted to stay in Germany? I hope that is what happened because we should have had full court press on him. Hope we didn’t miss out by waiting.

Lots of German players are similar to English ones and prefer to play in Germany rather than go abroad
Just like 90% of ours stay here.

Ours stay here cos they earn a hell of a lot more. The only place you'll get a pay rise outside the PL are Barca, Real, PSG, Bayern or China.

Both him and Hazard were always set on Dortmund it seems.

Spot on. Was going to say the same. German players are quite homely, generally like to stay in their own country.

I know that Germany as a nation has a different mentality towards business. They are far more comfortable with what I can only describe as 'organic growth'. In the UK there's much more pressure to succeed immediately, and if you do there's a strong liklihood that you'll succumb to a hostile takeover. Germany seems to have a mentality that steady progression breeds success and it seems their footballers are more likely to think that way than ours. They don't seem to buy into the 'grab what you can' culture.

I do wonder if part of what Poch meant about change is ditching the sell to buy mentality. Lot more noise this year although I guess the World Cup got in the way last year.

I suppose if Vorm and Llorente are leaving at the end of their deals then that's 2 non-HG places already to play with.

For someone like Brandt you'd surely have to act quickly and decisively.
Surely everyone knew that from the start? Poch is just smart with his words, thereby allowing interpretation in different ways. Of course Poch wants to spend without it being dependent on outgoings.

I wonder why, I feel like the English players just can't be bothered to learn a different language or be outside of their comfort zones
