It mentions Villa as the early front runners for him but they are being heavily linked with a central mid from Man City at the moment. Wonder if they had to turn their attention because either someone else has come in for him or as someone else mentioned this is/was all an angle for a new contract.

Busy times.

Could be a strategic move from the Phillips camp if he’s negotiating a new deal. This tweet was from 6 days ago.[/QUOTE]

That isn't working at the moment, we've been giving too many new contracts for the players in other teams and reached our limit, so they have to wait till next season. I guess our budget is something like 10 new contracts/year. Maybe they're are trying to get pre-agreement to be the first in line to be linked with us, when the rumours begin to roll in January?

I always laugh when I see people say this will make Dier redundant, or something similar. Dier would tear the Championship to shreds if he was down there, as would Wanyama (if fit). It's not that I don't want us to sign someone like Phillips, but he's done nothing yet to suggest he's anywhere near the level of those two when fit and at their best.

Absolutely. It's a massive step up from Championship to Prem, and then from 'just in the Prem' to 'Top 4 of the Prem'. For all Diers faults (which mostly were only last season when he's never been fit/well) he'd absolutely boss Championship games. Just seems incredibly unrealistic for the manager of a team expected to challenge for the title to hand one of the hardest and most crucial positions to a completely untried player !!! Never going to happen.

I would also imagine that Skipp would have looked top notch in the Championship. If we're looking for a DM prospect, I;d argue that we already have him if this is the level of player we're meant to be interested in.

Not a fan. Has always looked a liability when I've seen him play. Could have been sent off much more than he was last season. We can do much better. People saying hes better than dier are deluded

Could see this being a possibility if Dier is to return to CB replacing Toby within the squad, then getting someone like Phillips for less than the £25m Alderweireld raises, make a minor profit and boost the HG numbers. But at £30m, I’m just not seeing it at all. It’d have to £10-15m plus some add ons maybe.

Why not? We just broke our transfer record for a guy who plays for a side that finished third in a weaker league than the league Phillips side finished third in with him as their best midfielder.

Champions league? Where he destroyed arguably the best team in the world? Also good enough to keep our best cm last season out of the french team? That who you're talking about?

You reckon Norwich would've won Ligue 1, or that Leeds would finish in the top 10? "Weaker league" my heaving bollocks. The Championship isn't a stronger league just because the players tackle like ****s.

Point missed boys. It’s not a put down on Ndombele, who I’m very excited about. It’s an assertion that underrating someone from the Championship is a bit silly as these days that league is played at a very high level. This is before considering that the target has a head start on Pochettino’s expectations due to who he currently plays for.

That says, yes, in my opinion 15/20 Ligue Un sides get relegated from the Premier League. Norwich would have been a good shout for second, probably third.

Hmmmmm because of an injury, I'll wait before writing him off based on last season.

“For me it was a difficult season and I was tired for a long time because of injury,The African Championship is a good opportunity to regain my level and prepare my fitness fully before the holiday and then prepare for the new season, which will be a new personal challenge.” -Wanyama
And the season before. Dude is crocked.
