We know these lads can play, almost certainly they have had a been put through their paces on the training ground and had drilled into them the system they are to play. So I think this idea (not a new one) is really good. It takes their mind off the game for a couple of days but, more importantly helps with bonding guys who during the season are opponents. It also teaches them they have more inner strength than they probably were aware of. Having said that, I wouldn't recommend to be a regular part of the build up as it will eventually become a chore..
