I don't understand why some of you are going on and on about the need of finding a Modric type of player....when Spurs' already got 2 quality play makers in Holtby and Eriksen. No, they are not Modric-es but Modric is gone, get over it. Eriksen and Holtby - when given time - can turn out to be just as us"ueful" - or even better - than Modric.
I remember plenty of times when Modric could not open up tight defenses too, and his shooting - or lack or it - was really frustrating.
The play making spot, after the DMF spots, are my least concern right now.
If Honda joined it would be to play cup/Europ league games and to sell shirts with big Nipples.

Ok.

So you're comparing 2 'number 10's' to Modric? Classic mistake. Modric is not a 'number 10', he plays in a 'deep lying playmaker' role, which would be one of the 2 'holding midfield' spots in our current formation. I do think Holtby could play that role, but so far AVB hasn't used him there.

Hence why a few posters have discussed whether Honda could play that 'deep lying plamaker' role. I think Honda is more suitable for one of the advanced role's but its worth discussing as sometimes our build up play can be a bit slow.

He was quite clearly drawing comparisons with them as creative players, not saying they played in the exact same area of the pitch.

From what I saw of Holtby when he played deeper last season(AVB did try him there), I don't think it works. He's tenacious and whilst that's a part to his game that I like, it seemed to get him caught up in too much play going the wrong way. I know he said in an interview that he likes playing deeper but it gets him bogged down in other duties and makes him less effective going forward.

I was baffled when I thought we were talking about Honda as a no.10/winger option but playing him deeper, as one of the two deeper midfielders seems just as mad. Dembele's just started to return to form, Sandro's back, we paid £17mill for Paulinho and Capoue looked very good in the games before he got injured. Anyone that thinks we can keep them all happy, plus Honda is playing too many video games.

Yes, and I was saying how different Modric and Eriksen's Roles are, and how that then made the discussion about Honda relevant.

AVB did try Holtby there you're right, 1 match wasn't it, things can change but at the moment it's clear AVB see's him as a 'number 10'/advanced midfield role.

I agree, I dont see Honda playing as one of 'the 2 midfielders', but if we do want to speed up our play its a strong argument that we will need a better 'passer' in the 2 deeper roles. Maybe Capoue can help in that respect as his passing looks good, only time will tell.

The "can we keep them all happy" is something you read on these forums everytime we are linked to a player, "what about Siggy" "what about Lennon" ect ect. If you take that stance, then we might aswell never make another signing EVER. We always need to look to improve the squad, if you stand still you go backwards, and if AVB see's Honda is an improvement (we dont know, it's just a story in the media at this moment) then so be it, I personally do as I think he's quality, and better than quite a few of our current squad. Obviously if he did sign, eventually, someone would have to leave the Club, but thats life, and the evolution of a progressive football Club.

Why are we debating finding a player the quality of Modric? Modric cost £35m for a reason. Holtby has the potential for it. Honda doesn't.

The most accessible player I can think off of the top of my head is Schneiderlin tbh

Cabaye? Box to box with a great eye for a pass, he reminds me of Gerrard in his prime. Not as good as he was of course but still a very good player and possesses attributes that we lack in CM without Carroll.

Yep, we were very fortunate to sign Modric, who became world class in the role. There's not many top class ones about, and they cost mega money. Should have got that Moutinho deal wrapped up.

Yup. Moutinho would have been absolutely perfect. Magnificent player.

@WiganSpur@ - Cabaye's a possibility certainly, he's a good player but I was thinking more of a player that could both pass from deep and be a bit tricky. Like Huddlestone, but with more dexterity than a fridge. Schneiderlin was just the first to come to mind. Barkley's another that appeals. I'm not sure Honda is that kind of player, Honda's the kind of player who I think would have worked had we not signed Lamela because I think they play the same positions, correct me if I'm wrong there.

If we want to sign a creative centre-mid (which should be third priority behind a replacement for Defoe/Ade and backups for the full backs), then we need to have some idea of what this team is. If we're settling with 4-2-3-1 then we'll need to sell a CM, probably Dembele or Sigurdsson because otherwise we'll have too many square pegs.

Really we need to understand what kind of team we're building, and then make a purchase based on that, rather than expecting a purchase to work. In my opinion we should build the side around Lloris, Vertonghen, Sandro & Eriksen & maybe Townsend. Figure out where to place those and then figure out how to get the best out of them.

Keisuke Honda to join AC Milan, report says

Japanese international Keisuke Honda has signed a formal deal to join AC Milan when his contract with Russian champions CSKA Moscow expires on December 31, a report said Thursday.

Documents related to his free transfer to the European giants have been submitted to Italian football authorities, the Sports Nippon daily said.

AC Milan vice-president and chief executive Adriano Galliani recently told associates that the Serie A club had "formally contracted with Honda and had already submitted documents," the Japanese daily said, quoting well-informed sources.

When CSKA Moscow issue a transfer certificate for Honda, he will automatically be registered as an AC Milan player, the sources told Sports Nippon.

AC Milan failed to sign the 27-year-old attacker -- who helped Japan reach the last-16 at the 2010 World Cup -- during the summer transfer window. The Russian side had reportedly demanded a five-million-euro (USD 6.7 million) transfer fee.

After nearly four years with the reigning Russian champions, Honda has been eyeing Europe`s top clubs as he looks ahead to next year`s World Cup in Brazil. He has in the past been linked with several English Premier League clubs.

After the summer deal broke down, Honda told media he had a "number of options" when his time in Moscow ends.

It was reported last week that Tottenham were set to sign Honda in January.

Juventus, Monaco and Liverpool are among other clubs that reportedly showed interest in acquiring Honda. AFP

The network which comes in my country had a commentator who indirectly kept saying Soldado will struggle in the PL

Not sure if u ppl had the same guy but he kept saying that he doesn't make runs, get behind defenders and struggles physically

If he's been in the Spain for that long along with scoring that many goals then he's quality for sure.We just don't have any build up and its high time we play Chadli on the lw to get him some crosses.Avb needs to find a way to play against packed defences cause thats how mid table n bottom teams will play against us
