Tottenham will push to sign a striker this month as they react to the long-term absence of Harry Kane and they have joined the chase for Milan’s Krzysztof Piatek. Milan, who have re-signed their former centre-forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, are prepared to sell Piatek, a 24-year-old Poland international, if they can recoup the £30m they paid to take him from Genoa last January.
An expensive permanent deal would not appear to suit Spurs or, indeed, Newcastle and Aston Villa, who have also shown an interest in Piatek. The Premier League clubs would prefer a loan. Milan do not want that but it remains to be seen whether their position changes in the countdown to deadline.

Spurs have lost Kane to a hamstring tear until the beginning of March at least, leaving José Mourinho without a recognised, senior centre-forward. He complained after the 1-1 FA Cup draw at Middlesbrough on Sunday that the team were “playing without a striker”.
Mourinho wants to makes moves during the mid-season window but he knows that funds are tight and much will depend on the thinking of the chairman, Daniel Levy. The future of Christian Eriksen is another important factor. If Spurs were to sell the Denmark midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer, they would have greater room for manoeuvre.

Spurs’s line for January is that if the right player were to be available and represented a sound long-term investment rather than a quick fix, they could consider it, albeit it would be easier to do so with money from a potential Eriksen sale. Mourinho hopes that there could yet be room for a smart and opportunistic addition, particularly as injuries bite.

Kane’s preeminence at Spurs means that it is difficult for them to attract other strikers and Piatek is not agitating to leave Milan, even though he has struggled for goals this season. He will see how Ibrahimovic’s arrival plays out, with the manager, Stefano Pioli, saying he could now use a system with two strikers. Equally, Piatek might see the appeal of a short-term move to Spurs and so might Milan. He would stand to have opportunity in Kane’s absence, including in the Champions League last 16 against RB Leipzig, and Milan could see his value rise.

Interesting one, I believe Hytner is considered well connected for us.

Anything other than a loan with no obligation to buy would be dogshit.

Pissing me off that the only links, rumours I've seen are for attacking players which is the exact opposite of what we urgently need right now.
Where are the DMs and the full backs?

Hytner at the Guardian is one of the better Spurs sources. Generally when he has weighed in that Spurs are in negotiations for a player they've wrapped up a deal in the next week or so (he published "in negotiations" articles about both Moura and N'Dombele prior to those deals being wrapped up), although his article says they have "joined the chase" which perhaps isn't the same thing.

As someone, who watched Piątek even in Polish league, I hope it's the last time he's being linked with us and will never ever, ever join this club. We may be in shit form, but nowhere near as shit as this Rasiak Mk II. And this is a compliment for Piątek.

Looked to have a decent record with Genoa and started off well at Milan but gone downhill this season. Suppose Milan looking to move him on after only a year is bit of a warning sign. Not really watched him but doesn't seem to be a particularly great vibe about him from people who've watched him much more. Last thing we need is another Janssen on our hands.

Long term, any striker coming in knows he is going to be backup to Kane so maybe somewhat limits the quality we can target.

He's very limited. He'll run a lot, but with the ball all he really can do is shoot. Don't expect any clever link up play.

He had a good spell with Genoa and in a first couple of matches with Milan, when he was shooting a lot (like Kane-esque a lot), but with Milan being worse than shit now, he had to revert to type.

I'm worried if this is the best we can come up with. Honestly he's so limited.

He’s form along with AC Milan’s has been off this season. He’s totally reliable on getting those through passes. Not a one-on-one kinda striker like Kane but if provided he will score goals.
19 goals for a team like AC Milan consider the awfull season they had last year, It’s pretty good imo

I can see why we would be linked hes a proper No9, very good in the air scoring headers, bit of a fox in the box. He does need service and crossing into the box, which maybe be ideal as we dont do that much and try to play through teams, although that has changed a tad since JM has arrived. He is a good target man, im not sre about hold up play(as not watched to many games) but he is quite strong and physical. the problem with any striker like this is that they know as soon as Kane is back he aint getting game time

Not familiar so watched as much YT as possible and saw not 1 instance of him not shooting and scoring. That tells me he can finish but not much else. We can't accommodate someone like that as we don't create much as the moment. If we get GLC integrated with a (somehow) fit Tanguy or we get Lamela on the pitch then it is more viable as they will play more incisive risk passes for someone of this guys ilk to run onto. Not convinced myself.

The sun are reporting we have commenced talks to buy him. Didn't one of the ITK's say that the sun is now a good source for our transfer stuff? It's hard to see many strikers under the age of early 30's being willing to join us but hey if he is then he's better than having no recognised striker (excluding TP).

Most of his goals last season were for Genoa. 19 in 21 for them, 11 in 21 after he joined AC in January, in all competitions.

By all accounts he seems to have been a one season wonder.
