Can't be many that get sacked with the club at the top of the league!

But he failed to win the Champions League. The money and global exposure from winning the CL is becoming increasingly more important than league titles. Just look at how obsessed PSG, Chelsea and Man City are with the CL. It was only a matter of time till the historically big clubs adopted similar priorities.

Standards, at the end of the day. Most clubs, including ours wouldn't understand it. For a large majority still the Cruyff (and then, Guardiola) way is still sacred and winning isn't enough, you have to do it in the right fashion. Plus he hasn't convinced when it comes to crunch matches and the CL.

Valverde sacked, replaced by Setien, random

Seems random, but it's not a strange choice if you know Setién and his philosophy. He is a huge admirer of Cruyff and the way he wanted to play football. You could see that at Betis last season. They played like Barca used to play under Guardiola - lots of possession, short passes, dominant offensive football. Betis where great to watch last season. He is also highly valued by some of Barcas players because of the way he sees football.
Setién also has a connection with Xavi. It's well known that Xavi will become the next Barca Manager in the next few years. Maybe already in 6 months. Setièns contract is actual a 2 1/2 years contract but Barca can cancel it after 6 months and then after a year. As soon as they want Xavi to take over, they can do so without a financial risk.
Maybe they see the transition from Setién to Xavi in terms of playing style easier for the squad as from Valverde to Xavi. Which makes sense, because Valverdes style is totally different and not really appreciated by the fans and the squad.

Valverde hasn't got the team performing well for a long time. The reason he was given time is because he doesn't complain and demand players from the board, according to Barca fans.

Underachieved over a long period of time. Knocked out of the Spanish Super Cup was the last drop. My Barcelona mate says that Valverde has kept quiet over the team's performance because he was afraid to lose the dressing room... This was probably his first and last job as manager for a top team

Barcelona were allowed by Spanish FA to sign a forward today from Leganes because of their injury problems

Could you imagine the uproar in England if say we did the same thing and signed Pukki or Ings today

That Leganes striker is their star player. Currently they're in a relegation battle too. Leganes could be relegated as a result of losing this player, it's a complete joke

Martin Braithwaite. Thought I recognised the name, he used to play in the Championship for Boro.

He has a £250m buyout clause if anyone wants to buy him in the Summer. What's the fucking point in putting that clause in? :ROFLMAO:

La Liga is a joke, its so catered towards Madrid and Barcelona its ridiculous, they can do whatever the hell they want and no one bats an eyelid.

How they are allowed to buy a striker from a relegation struggling team is beyond me and then that team not be allowed to sign a replacement.

They didn't have to sell the player.

I take it Suarez and Dembele can't play for the rest of the season?

Every player in the Spanish league has a release clause, some clauses like Messi's are €1bn and near impossible to trigger, but most are like Braithwaite's and at the top end of a reasonable valuation.

But yes Dembele is confirmed out for the season and Suarez is most likely also out until May.
