Leicester City are ruthless in front of goal, topping the Premier League's conversion chart while Aston Villa's finishing problems match their lowly position in the table
  • Claudio Ranieri's team have scored from 14 per cent of their shots
  • They beat Newcastle United on Monday with their only shot on target
  • Aston Villa have a conversion rate of only six per cent in front of goal
  • Everton are second in the Premier League rankings and West Ham are third
  • Watford and Swansea City round off the conversion rate bottom three
  • Arsenal, often accused of being profligate, are in the top seven

Leicester City are top of the Premier League - both the actual table and for their conversion rate in front of goal.

Claudio Ranieri's men beat Newcastle United 1-0 on Monday night in ruthless fashion, scoring from their only shot on target of the game, Shinji Okazaki's sensational bicycle kick.

It follows the trend of the entire season, as the Foxes have scored from 14 per cent of their shots, bagging 52 times, barring own goals, from only 385 attempts to become the most efficient team in the top flight.

Their nearest rivals in the rankings are Everton, buoyed by the good form of 18-goal striker Romelu Lukaku in front of the net. The Toffees have scored 48 times from 387 shots, a rate of 12 per cent.

That is the same per cent figure that West Ham United have put up, although they have only hit home on 45 occasions from 383 shots. It explains the Hammers' rise to fifth and Champions League contention as the Premier League heads down the home stretch.

Aston Villa are, unsurprisingly, the league's most wasteful team. The Premier League's basement side have struggled in front of the net all season, scoring only 19 times, and taking 305 shots to do so.

They only score six per cent of their shots, less than half of the amount Leicester manage to convert.

Watford, who had failed to score in three games prior to Sunday's 2-1 win against Arsenal in the FA Cup, are the next least efficient team, striking from nine per cent of attempts.

9 Swansea City 29 338
9 Watford 27 315
6 Aston Villa 19 305
The Hornets have only scored 27 times in the league from 315 shots, in part relying on their defensive solidity to keep them in the Premier League.

They only score six per cent of their shots, less than half of the amount Leicester manage to convert.

Watford, who had failed to score in three games prior to Sunday's 2-1 win against Arsenal in the FA Cup, are the next least efficient team, striking from nine per cent of attempts.

certainly telling that we have had 100 more shots but only 1 more goal. Although obviously we didn't need cover for Harry Kane this season!!!

Actually it makes sense, they mainly play on the counter attack so their best chances will often be 1 v 1s which fall to their best finishers. We on the other hand have had to play against deep defenses much of the season, so we end up taking more shots from distance.
