I known tribalism is a thing.

But can we not just accept that a) Liverpool have an exceptional squad this season and are playing some exceptional football and b) their youth team is pretty bloody good as well!

Can we not accept as sports/football fans that there are some teams playing better than others? This is what sport is! Jeez. I'm bloody lost half the time .

Without tribalism, football wouldn’t exist. Fuck Liverpool FC. Very, very good side though, of course

Thing is, that isn't massively the case. They've been shit in a lot of games, and certainly had a lot of decisions go their way.

You only have to look at the table to see that 80% of the teams in the league are bit crap this season, and to their credit they have capitalised on it. I don't think they are that different to Leicester in the season that they won it. They're not as good (imo) as City have been in recent years, and are being flattered a bit by everyone else being a bit below par.

I reiterate I despise the ****s i absolutely despise them - they annoy the hell out of me but they're a relentless well oiled mentally tough machine who is steamrollering everyone that gets in their way. They're single minded and determined to win this thing. That is the kind of stuff I would love us to be.

Anyways I dont get this whole the other teams are rubbish. Isnt the point of the league for that particular season to be better than everyone else? Which they are. I mean if you have all 20 teams at the top of their game and they still won it then they would still be better than everyone else and the other 19 would be considered as under performing.

If we won the league would we say that the other 19 under performed? even if we did, the fact that we would have performed means we deserve the league. Same goes Liverpool.

What's up with the cringey impassioned speeches in defence of Pool, as if anybody is saying they're shit? Everybody knows they're the best team in England at the moment, but that doesn't mean the other "competitors" aren't shite this year. Sheffield United are in the top 6 ffs.

They absolutely deserve the title, but it's undeniable they're taking it under very little resistance and they are benefiting from a lot of questionable VAR decisions. I remember Palace having an absolutely disgraceful decision against them, with a goal disallowed for no reason. It's been a season of those sorts of decisions in their favour.

So many people are going on about LiVARpool, I've been guilty of it too at times. But according to GiveMeSport's VAR table, they'd still be 15 points clear of City even if VAR wasn't being used, which just shows how immense their season has been. They would only have four points fewer without VAR intervention, City would have three more.

Oh, yeah - it's not really a reason for their performance - just something that's really annoying.

TBF, that's just taking the VAR decisions out of the games, we don't know how those games would have ended up, goals/decisions can change the momentum of games and it's possible they could have lost a few more, I still think they would be top, but it would be a lot closer.

If you take away the VAR decisions that they have had in their favour and look at the other incidents throughout the season the refs have favoured them more than any other club in the prem.

They’d still win the league this season though, bias taken away.

What is becoming tedious is them being described as some all time great team. As mentioned above, this season has a Leicester type feel to it. Everyone else trying their best to fuck it up. I wouldn’t even put this Liverpool side in the top 5 teams of the premier league era, and that hurts a bit because one of them is a fucking goon team and one is a Chelsea team!

Look at what else they've won in the last year though. Two Champions League finals in a row. Almost won the league last season. It's no wonder some people are saying they're a great team.

Keane and Souness had a similar discussion the other day.
Keane laughed at Souness when he mentioned them finishing runners up. It’s harsh but Keane is right, win another couple of titles after this one and a couple more trophies and then we’ll call them a truly great side.

Fergie built 3 such sides when at United so Keane should know. To be fair, Souness should know better too. He was part of a truly great Liverpool side that this current lot won’t get near.

Keanes a dick.

Everyone has their own definition of what makes a great team. For some it needs to be judged over many years, by comparing achievements, for others it can be done in one or two.

He can be a bit of a dick, but he’s quite entertaining. It also doesn’t mean he isn’t right sometimes. Truly great teams need longevity imo, but as you say, it’s personal opinion. If it’s done over one season then there’s literally been thousands of great teams over the years

There is a seemingly concerted effort from the media to crown this Liverpool team as something they aren’t ( yet )
I mean, everybody was slagging the world club trophy off and then Liverpool win it and suddenly it’s this massive achievement! ?
Right now they have a relatively freaky Champions League title under their belt and will be Premier League Champions. It’s a great start for sure, but I think it needs adding to in order to be called a truly great side.

I'd say that they've done it over two seasons now. The champions League win last season and running away with the title this year. If they do it again next season, or win the champions League again this year then you probably have to start thinking about them in those terms.

Yeah for sure. Back to back titles and a champions league win thrown in would be very impressive.

Are the Chelsea team that won the CL then, a season or two later won the PL, regarded as a “great?” I’ve never ever heard the media extolling them in the way they do with the scouse.

They’re almost desperate to push this idea that this team are one of the greats. The only conclusion I can come to is that the vast majority of the media are fans and are desperate to have them surpassing Utd.

It’s no wonder Keane laughs at them.

I've got no idea what was said about Chelsea at the time. Their League and champions League wins were under different managers and quite a few different players though.
The year Arsenal won the league by going unbeaten they were described as a great team. They didn't win anything else.
