If their Italian owner passed the fit and proper test then it proves the test is a joke. Weren't they in something like the League One playoffs when he took charge? A manager and player turnover Cellino would be proud of and a host of dud signings from mainly Italy from what I've gathered and this is what they deserve.

Feel very sorry for the fans.

Yep, they lost the play off on penalties.

Still a better option for the Olympic Stadium than West Ham.

Barry Hearn said that awarding West Ham exclusive use of the London stadium would kill the O's and it looks like he was right. He wouldn't have sold the club if they'd been able to play there.

Winding up order and a huge tax bill for Orient. Free stadium in Orient's catchment area and never ending government handouts to run it for West Ham. Two failed businesses with two totally different outcomes

Barry Hearn should have checked out the owner more thoroughly, this where Alan Sugar should could get more credit than he does he sold to financially responsible owners.

Very sad for the fans. My grandfather played for them briefly I think, (until they worked out that he was 76.)

As everything in the UK is always for sale, the fit and proper person test doesn't seem much more than answering in the affirmative to the question "Got Cash?"

We've been quite close to Orient over the years - didn't our reserves play home games there once?
And we have a common enemy.
We obviously don't owe these current owners a favour, but if Orient AFC are established,
I hope we play regular friendlies against them to help them get established.

I hark back to the days of the late 1960's when they use to walk around with a blanket at half time for folk to chuck pennies into it.

Always my second club and yeah you could spit of the OS from there.

My god father goes to all their home games and some away.

Used to go to a few matches myself, they're very much my second team and enjoyed our pre-season friendlies over there as well.

It's very sad as they were doing really well for a time, established in league 1 and just missing out on promotion to the championship due to their smaller squad and limited resources.

There was a buzz when the new owners came in as felt they'd be able to invest but it's gone completely pie-shaped and there's some dodgy rumours about the owners going around...

Dodgy rumours about an owner who makes his money through waste management? Surely not?

250k is peanuts at the top. I hope somebody (cough - Levy) lends them a hand. Their owner should be run out of Dodge as well.

Maybe buy them out and run the club like a kind of Tottenahm B but still as Leyton Orient. They were the closest league club to the Olympic stadium and they have been right royally shafted, it's a bloody shame what's been done to them.

My second team too - if they were on and Spurs were off then my Dad and I would get the 34 from Palmers Green - at one point it used to go all the way IIRC. Or maybe we changed at the Crooked Billet. God I'm old.

Sad news indeed. Starting as AFC Orient or some such might be best for all concerned.

We used to get the 38 to The Bakers Arms then walk from there, all the way along past the Oliver pub.
When I was at secondary school in Enfield there was a lad called Terry Messenger - same age as me - he lived in the tower blocks near the Oliver but drowned very young, they changed the name to Terry Messenger House but then a few years later the whole estate was levelled in the name of modernisation.

Had some great times down there ... West Side Boys

School..
1967-1969
St Ignatius College, formerly Cardinal Allen school, Cotswold Way Nr Jolly Farmers, between Oakwood and Chase Side
1969-1970
St Ig's College. Turkey Street.

I lived in Stoke Newington during that time but came out on the rattler every school day, it was a kind of grammar school
back then. Entry dependent on exam results and connections.

I hated it and because they had never ever expelled any kid before I was asked to leave, which I gladly did.
