The number of seats in the stadium is the same whether the pitch is in the stadium or under the south stand.

I would hardly call CL quarter and semi-finals 'run of the mill'.

So the consensus is that there are fewer seats available at a football match due to segregation of fans, and that is the reason why an NFL game gets more people in than a CL semi-final.

How many? A 'two or three seat divide'? A 'couple of hundred'? Consider this: stadium capacity: 62,062. NFL (and record) attendance: 60,463. So our record gate is 1,600 below capacity. Record football attendance: 60,407 (Aston Villa).

Like I said: pathetic.

I don't think we've even put any tickets on general sale yet. It's not like we couldn't sell more tickets to games if we wanted/needed to.

Remember we quote the number of people who turned up, not the ticket sales. We will have sold out all the events.

But any mid-week game attended by a large quantity of season ticket holders may see 2 or 3% of the ticket buyers not turn up due to illness, transport issues, work issues etc.

A one-off American football game played at the weekend would have very few reasons for a fan not to show up.

As for the naming rights, Levy will demand the rate for a multi-use stadium.
Until a potential sponsor has seen the marketing effect of all it's multi-use events they can't afforf to match it.
Once we've hosted football, NFL, rugby, gigs, etc only then will they be able to gauge whether it's worth it or not.

As for us, it's worth holding out for a higher price even at the loss of a season as an extra five million, for example, over 10 years will far outweigh that.
And in the meantime our name is the one being advertised around the world which is marketing gold.

The only thing I’m drawing from this is the writer in question is peddling Levy’s spin. He’s not objective. Worth bearing in mind.

If you go on the seats sold basis the stadium has basically been a sell out for every game. Assuming the original seating plan in west and east stands hasn't changed then there are a 1028 box seats in east and west stand mostly on the 4th tier. have noticed at PL & CL games many of these box seats are not fully occupied it was also the same at the NFL game if a box owner only invites 5 guests into a 20 capacity box then that is going to reflect on the attendance figure. Also in the seating plan there are 126 seats in the directors box, 233 media seats and 97 players bench seats , these are all included in the total stadium capacity and are unlikely ever to be included in the paying attendance figure. Also in the stadium capacity are the wheelchair seats if you don't have 250 or so wheelchairs users in the stadium then that also will come off the attendance figure as those are are only available to wheelchair users and not offered for sale to others if unoccupied .
Unlike some clubs the attendance at Spurs reflects seats occupied and not seats sold.

You forget three things:
a) Away ticket sales, not always sold out
b) Segregation space
c) UEFA seating restrictions/advertising space

It's actually almost impossible for us to sell 62,062 seats for a football match because of all the above.

No I didn't.
a) so City and Ajax didn't fill their end for those games? Unlikely
b) specifically dealt with in my last post
c) the new stadium isn't like the Lane, where seating was lost due to UEFA stipulations; and seats occupied by UEFA 'dignitaries' will still be counted in the attendance figures.

As for the points made by others about corporate attendance, wheelchairs, work commitments etc, if fewer Spurs attend matches in the later stages of the CL than fans than NFL fans attend then it remains a sad indictment of Spurs fans who can't be arsed to go.

I understand there will never be 62,062 fans in the stadium for any event. But if we can't get more bodies in for the big games than attend the NFL then my point remains: it's pathetic.

You lose about 600 seats on segregation and the other unsold seats most likely are the premium ones.

The football side will never get close to the full attendance like the nfl can.

The arguments about attendance are all a little trivial when you consider that more fans wanted to see Spurs v Aston Villa than a CL semi final against Ajax or a CL game against Man City, must mean Villa are a bigger attraction or maybe the seat prices were lower I wonder which.

We could have sold out the stadium twice against Ajax and City. Football matches never fill capacity even if sold out for various reasons. Overseas season ticket holders are one. Corporate seats not being filled is another.
