I like him but, for me, we have: Eriksen, Lamela, Chadli, Kane, Townsend, Lennon and Holtby for 3 positions. That is at least 1 too many and that is before we consider that we are also in the market for someone like J-Rod and we have some promising youngsters coming through.

I like Holtby, brings a lot of energy and, every now and again, will play the most incredible through balls but I feel his chargng around compensatea from a lack of genuine ability for me.

One of Lenny, Townsend and Holtby needs to leave IMO and I like/ dislike all of them in equal measure...

Would wish him well but can't see him ever being a regular for us

Holtby is not competeting dircetly with either of Lamela, Chadli, Kane, Lennon or Townsend for a place in the team. He is a CMF, and his most direct "competitiors" are Dembele, Paulinho, Bentaleb and Ryan Mason

Genuine question, can you explain what you see in holtby?
With the exception of his debut off the bench at Norwich & against weaker opposition in EL I can not see what the fuss is about, he tries hard (in a running around a lot kind of way) but I'm not even sure what his best position is?

And there's plenty more, Cardiff, Villa, Europa, pre season, not to mention the goals.
If Eriksen or Lamela get injured, he's the closest thing we have them.

Worth remembering his wages are very high for a squad player.

I'm not desperate for him to leave or anything by the way & you see him as a squad player which is fair enough. I just know there are a lot of fans that really do like him & I'm just keen to know what it is they see in him that I haven't.
I don't get it either. Reminds me of the love someone like Tainio or Mendes got for doing very little in a Spurs shirt. I know it's early days but if the new manager doesn't fancy him, then that's three on the spin. That speaks for itself.

Please don't sell him. We sold one CAM in Sigurdsson, we can't sell another one IMO.

One of our best players in pre season, think he has a role to play as a squad player/bench option

I think holtby should be used in a more attacking midfield role as he doesn't have the discipline or positional sense to play in the DM role.

This has got me thinking.

If Eriksen was injured, Lamela could go central - or Kane, or even Chadli....these are all options for Poch.

Imagine we bring in another left sided played for the three as well.

Does Holtby get in there really? How much time is he likely to get?

I think Kane is going to be used more if I'm honest - and rotate with Eriksen.

Lewis is not good enough for the 'two'...doesn't have the discipline.

Just playing devils advocate here.

Magath was none too fond either.

Interesting. Wouldn't be averse to seeing Holtby go, if it means bringing in a better attacking midfielder.

He's got plenty of heart, but he isn't strong enough in any position to start for us.

Selling to fund signings. It's what we are and fair enough. Staying stable in terms of PL standings. It's hard to describe this as any sort of progression though. Really thought it would be a nice stable summer with two or three in and MP working on what we had and then do same next year. Way it's looking could be something like 8 or 9 out 6 or 7 in. Really can't stand this transfer carousel policy we have.

I can see this happening sadly, there's a deal to be made there for Levy and he'd .probably want to make a bit of profit on him

Even if the new coach wants to make some changes?

He deserves the chance to shape the squad to his liking.

He's a head coach. Yes two or three but to have complete wholesale changes for like 3rd summer in a row is just not for me. We're giving no chance for players to grow and adapt. It doesn't help that we have new coach but that's why we have DOF. The amount of players we've gone through in last two years is a bit of a joke imo.

Mendes was revered because he was the first Spurs midfielder in Prem history who could actually pass the ball.

As for Holtby, not his biggest fan but surely his energy and tenacity make him a good squad option in the present set up?
