Lower league clubs don't want to test because, quite frankly, they're skint.

The only way this is remedied is if there is some sort of economic safety net for them, so they don't need to worry about making ends meet in this difficult time.

Who pays for that, however, is another debate.

Like I said before, I have a feeling that this season will be a total dog's dinner, with increasingly bizarre situations as it progresses.

Does it matter whether they had specific symptoms or not? If the majority of the team has "a bug" during a global pandemic, would you not stop and think maybe they should get tested. Especially as there are a vast number of symptoms.

If the squads got the trots and are showing no other Issues I can understand why they might not think it was Covid as it's not a widely reported symptom. That could be a genuine mistake. If the players have a fever or cough and they've ignored it that's something else entirely.

Everyone seems to assume it will be Chelsea but its not certain. Come on Barnsley!

The stance that there is an incentive not to test, or some of the comments from their fans that they would have been better off refusing our offer to test is just astonishing to me.

We are dealing with a deadly virus, and while it is highly unlikely to hurt these football players, what about the elderly relatives of their families and friends?

I get that we cannot all afford to test every suspicious case, nor can lower league teams be expected to follow the PL protocol, but for goodness sake, if tests are offered and paid for by the opposing team then there is absolutely no argument whatsever for them to be refused.

Football is a game, we are talking about people's long term health or lives potentially.

Either there chairman is a fucking idiot or he is completely oblivious to the pandemic. Actually, either way, he is a fucking idiot.

This is his club at fault. As chairman, the buck stops with him. He failed horribly in his duty to Orient's players welfare and the welfare of other clubs players. We paid for his players and staff to be tested. Also, there is something called a massive fixture pileup that 8 clubs in the PL now have to contend with. He can literally do one. Embarrassing his club and himself. The EFL has a shit load to answer for with their negligence of their covid protocols but this situation is Orients fault. They put 2 clubs at risk and almost put a 3rd club at risk. They could have fucked the whole thing for the sport this season, really.

The incentive not to test is that it would cost money. Blows my mind that clubs in the lower leagues wont fucking spend to ensure the safety of their players, staff, and their loves ones. But to be honest, the EFL should step in and take on the cost.

So when do we find out if it's a rearranged game or we just go through?

So when do we find out if it's a rearranged game or we just go through?

As others have mentioned, we will probably be waiting until either:

a) the outcome of our EL game on Thursday (to see if we have more EL games coming in our schedule)

b) the outcome of Chelsea's game with Barnsley (same principle as above but for Chelsea with CL)

Friday would be my guess

Seems a bit fucked up that they have to wait to see if we get knocked out the EL or chelsea get knocked out, but guess I'm asking too much for them to have a clear rule on this!

No idea what's the rule for if it's not followed.

Fucking soft all round, and all because of money but expense of lives. Ffs.

I’ve got a soft spot for Orient but I find myself having little sympathy for the club in this situation. They knew that some of their players weren’t well but chose to overlook it. This was reckless and potentially disastrous to other teams. Thank goodness our club had the foresight to pay for testing, or we could have been looking at half our squad out for a couple of weeks.
Slightly miffed at some of their fans getting all self righteous about Spurs bending over backwards to accommodate this fixture, too. We’ve been generous in our response so far, but at the end of the day this is down to Orient’s poor biosafety, and the EFL’s short sighted policy of no testing.

Hard to see how a full season with no gate receipts will be sustainable for many small clubs. League may need to adopt feeder club system you have in US baseball or Spanish football - eg Spurs allowed buy a League 1 or League 2 club and U-23s go and play there alongside established lower league players.
