Looks like from the rules it would be a bye.I can't see that they would have enough players as they would all be isolating surely?

EFL rules for non-fulfilment of fixtures
5.1 A Club which is unable to fulfil its obligation to complete a Competition match in Round One to (and including) Round Four due to either:

5.1.1 that Club’s Player(s) having returned a positive CAT result and self-isolating in accordance with the action plan set out in the Return to Play/Return to Training Protocols resulting in the Club not having a sufficient number of Players to fulfil the fixture; or

5.1.2 any requirements or directions of the UK Government and/or by any public authority,

shall forfeit the fixture, pay the opposing Club’s expenses in accordance with Rule 5.8 and the opposing team shall receive a bye into the next round of the Competition.

I wouldn't think so, the virus will need some time to incubate before it will show on a test. Anyone who has been in close contact with their positive tested players will need to isolate and get tested again in a few days. There is no way we could risk playing them now.

If PL clubs get covid in their first teams the season will quickly hit a brick wall, that is why the measures are so strict. Thank goodness Leyton agreed to the testing and we insisted on it.

But then why is Man City x Wolves taking place tonight with Gundogan news?

A postponement might actually be better than a bye for us. It would mean the Orient game would go to the same week as a Europa GS match if we get that far - where if we do poorly we have another 5 games to make up for it rather than a straight knockout. And more importantly, the Chelsea tie would also be around another GS game, plus they'd also have CL GS that same midweek so would likely put out a weaker side. Obviously means one extra game, but when you add in Bale's fitness by then too it also presents a better chance of beating Chelscum and going on to win the cup.

Perhaps because he was the only positive? Orient have several positives. City can still field a side safely. Orient cannot, plus the ground we were due to play at has been closed. Wolves' stadium is fine.

Surely they’d just have to play the players who tested negatively? Otherwise you’re opening a can of worms of what’s to come, say we had 4 positive tests in November, teams can’t be forfeiting games constantly.
I don't think it's as simple as saying "you tested positive, you forfeit." I think it's more so the case this is a league cup match and the next round is already scheduled for next week with no time in-between or shortly after for a make-up. Each case would have to be looked at individually and ruled accordingly instead of having one rule for all games.

If this was a league game, it would be easy to just reschedule it in 2 months.

I understand the ground situation and I guess without knowing how many have tested positive it’s hard to judge however I’m a bit confused as to why this would be forfeited because their teammates need to isolate but it isn’t same for when PL clubs start getting positives back.

If a PL club suddenly had several positive tests, I expect their game would be called off too. But the regular testing makes that much, much less likely to happen. The lack of it in L2 also increases the likelihood that the infection has been around for some time and spread to other members of the squad, even if they're testing negative for now.

I'd wager it's because the Prem clubs have such regular testing it isn't an issue. The lower league clubs have to deal with the unknown of how long they may have had it.

He hasn’t been training?

so noone has been close to him during any training sessions?

The premier league clubs are more 'covid' safe in terms of having regular testing, safer training facilities, medical staff due to money. Ultimately if someone has tested positive - Public Health England would be informed - who would advise - if noone else has to self isolate then I would be fairly confident that they havent came into close contact with him. Also with League 2 teams not being tested regularily we dont know how long the infection has been spreading. With Gundagon - if he got tested Monday and was negative - but tested Wednesday positive - they would look at who he has been in contact with for those days - and deal with the consequences - for Leyton Orient they cant do that. With regards the difference between that and Leyton Orient - we dont know the exact number that has tested positive but it looks like a lot more than a few.

Also, PL games have a year to be squeezed in, with the cups you have a certain window by which certain rounds need to be completed

I could well be wrong. It seems that the PL state only players testing positive will need to isolate. I guess the PL teams are testing so much that it is unlikely to spread quickly without warning, as has happened with Leyton. It will be interesting to see what happens with the match. But it seems pretty mad to allow our players anywhere near this team who will almost certainly have some players incubating the virus.

I don't know what the prize money is in the Carabao cup. But if we get a walkover I hope that we do good by Orient, also that we get them another set of match worn kits to auction off.

Orient's stadium and training ground are closed until further notice, so there's no way tomorrow's match goes ahead.
Unfortunately I think they will have to forfeit as there's no timescale on when they could resume or reschedule

If it's not postponed or forfeited, I guess it would have to be switched to our stadium, and Orient would have to field a truly ridiculous team - either players who haven't been at the training ground or had any contact with any positive cases (schoolboys?), or if the EFL will allow it some hastily-assembled trialist and loanee special for the night.

What is also concerning is that this could also have happend very recently when PL teams played teams in the lower leagues in 2nd round last week, and this issue did not appear to be covered before. It would be interesting to know whether or not those PL teams paid for lower League teams to be tested.

Nah, they can not do that. It is completely unsure how the virus has spread in the whole club. Who knows if a player transmitted it to some staff member who also had contact with Youths or other club members. The whole club should be in quarantine now.

Could be a funny season with loads and loads of games being postponed and they will run out of fixture dates.
