Then the league should be paying, or they shouldn’t be playing.
And the PFA can use some of the millions they have in the bank and chip in too. They're supposed to be looking after the players' interests, time to act like it.

You want the EFL to do something sensible? You’ll be waiting a long time.
I also support a Conference South team and for the teams to take part in the playoffs, the clubs had to find £50k each to ensure players were fully Covid tested.

If sport is so integral to the country’s wellbeing according to the Govt, then maybe they should be subsidising it as well.

That is a disgusting amount of money at that level.

If the government wants to encourage sporting activity, they have to stump up. Or they can do like my government in Norway and cancel all non-professional adult football and face a huge backlash that way too.

Not sure how much of an indicator this is, but Spurs seem to have removed the countdown to tomorrow’s kick off from the app/website.

A genuine shame.

For all the complaints about the EFL, we have to remember they're ultimately just a collection of their clubs too. If the clubs can't afford it, neither can the EFL. It's really the PL clubs who should be funding the food chain they rely on, not the taxpayer

Don’t think it would go down too well if the government funded it, with the money awash in football. The league has the cash for this, and like I said, if they don’t want to pay, they shouldn’t play.

It wouldn’t hurt the prem to help out in such an exceptional circumstance, but I don’t think they rely on the fabled pyramid as much as people make out. But that’s a discussion for another thread.

It is a shame for Orient, hopefully they can be compensated somehow, but for us it is a blessing. The schedule was crazy, we would go mad if this fixture congestion led to a major injury to a key player.

I can’t believe that the lower league clubs are not obliged to carry out tests anyway. It’s just asking for trouble.
In general it's no more of a risk than amatuer local league football resuming without testing (as is the case).
The reasoning behind it is that the club's can't afford to fund the tests, so testing is optional no mandatory, which I can understand. All teams and players are sharing the same risk.
What I don't understand is how it's optional for teams to test before competing against team for whom testing is mandatory. The two need to be kept entirely separate until the pandemic is over and/or all teams are being equally stringent.

Was watching Villa v Sheffield United and in the upcoming games on Sky bit they do during the match I don't think it was mentioned? I'm half asleep and was doing a gaming stream at the same time so they may have done but not sure.

If the Bale/Reguilon announcement is anything to go by, they’ll let us know the Orient game is cancelled when the team gets back from Macedonia.

Where are these testing cost estimates coming from? My employer has a deal with a private healthcare coming at £100 per test and I’m sure the EFL and PL could easily negotiate similar terms. That’s be about £4K per testing round for teams and coaches, which equates to about £150k per season if people are being tested weekly.

Absolutely gutted about this. First and foremost lets hope that all the players are ok and recover quickly. It's such a shame for the Justin Edinburgh foundation that this has been cancelled. As others have mentioned it would be nice to do something for them later in the season or prior to next season when fans are allowed back at games.
From a personal point of view I've been looking forward to these two teams meeting for years. My best friend is an Orient fan and I go to the odd game with him when we're both free. We also used to go to Tottenham games together when we were kids. I never want Tottenham to lose, but if there was one team I wouldn't mind us losing against...

I wonder what would have happened if it was Liverpool v Tottenham.. odd to gift the win to spurs considering orient have sadly fallen victim of the pandemic. Hope they recover soon

The PL already fund all of the revenue for the PFA, who are there to look after the welfare of players from all leagues

They have a massive “rainy day” fund yet have done nothing to protect their members.

If they don’t act I can envisage lots of their lower league members being out of work as clubs will start to go under as the season continues
