I really don't see the vertonghen situation to be that big a deal. He's clearly not up to the speed of the other CB's in Poch's opinion.

Solid team, worry we don't have enough goalscorers however.
Good team. Steady as you go and Lucas and Lo Celso to bring on later. Very pragmatic.

Lot's of footballers and plenty of work rate in that team. Looking to keep hold of the ball here.

Just not sure that back 4 is strong enough to keep out City.

Have no idea how we'll set out, initially thinking it's a 4-2-3-1 with Ndombele further forward in the middle and Eriksen/Lamela in the wide forward areas.

Think we’ll get battered to be honest. One dimensional going forward and the Man C line up makes you want to hide behind the settee and pray for a miracle. If we had Lo Celso, Son, and even Moura starting, with Sess on the bench then I’d fancy our chances of getting something out of the game but we don’t so let’s just hope it’s not a mauling.

I feel like Poch secretly gets a kick out of doing something strange in a big game. Dropping the one pacey player we have available in attack whose also a goal threat?

The disappointing thing about that team is that it is far from our best. No son, verts, alli etc is significant. I think that we can match them in the middle but not sure that we will offer enough going forward. Hopefully he's gone for a 4-3-3 as I think it will give us good balance and decent width, given that the full backs will probably be less progressive than normal.

Really hope that we get a look at lo celso as well and Moura could do something from the bench.

Still feel that Alli and Son are big absentees.

Down as 4-3-2-1 Christmas formation on sky sports website lol.

Still would prefer 4-2-3-1 with Vertonghen at the back, Poch worries me sometimes...

Man City subs: Bravo, Jesus, Silva, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Cancelo, Foden

Even their bench is ridiculously strong.

If it is a xmas tree then I'm not sure I know why Poch is now so insistent on playing narrow. We'll of course have to see how it plays out, but I really think we play better when we have a bit of natural width and not width that is solely dependant on the fullbacks.

Being a glutten for punishment I will watch this on the slim hope we get a result, with or without the shit team selection. The only way you can hurt them at the back is pace. so lets take out our one quick player and play with two players who away against big sides have been shit for years.

Unbelievable.

Doubt it- of all the formations Poch has flirted with over recent years, he’s not yet let this one get a sniff of his Old Spice.

I’m going with a 4321- the much mocked Christmas Tree- but with Eriksen and Lamela roaming as two CAMs. I think this is designed to choke them and catch them on the break- it’s opportunistic but with technically proficient players. Then Moura and possibly Lo Celso on later in the game to run at tiring legs.

I also mostly know fuck all

People fuss too much about formations. It's obvious from the several posts that looked at the 11 and wrote "thank fuck it's not a diamond" and the several other people who looked at the same 11 and wrote "bugger, it's the diamond".

It wasn't a strictly a diamond last week - we lined up 4-3-3 at kick off - and the formation changed dynamically throughout the game, as it always does, depending on the transition and the zone of play. I find it more useful to think in attacking and defensive blocks than formations: who joins the attacking block when we win the ball and who drops back into the defensive block when we lose it?

Seriously, ima fking riot if Poch slowly progresses to fking freezing out Verts!
Poch knows what he's doing, but Verts is legend material.
