Not sure if anyone has seen it but last night Mourinho seemed to making a clear message to the board that we need a back up striker and more options in the forward line. If anyone hasn't seen it it was on the sky app.

He said he looked to the bench and we have no options and then went on about how City have Aguero and bought Jesus, Chelsea had bought Batshuay etc. It seemed to be a clear statement of are we a big club or not and if we are we need to sign the players.

Either way hopefully Levy was and is listening and will bring in some reinforcements.

Yep and interestingly Jose also said after Lamela went off he didn’t have any wingers on the bench, so I’d imagine he’ll be looking to buy another one in the summer.

It's going to be really interesting to see who we replace and who stays. I think he has been impressed with Lamela's application but probably not so impressed with his availability. It will be interesting to see if he can reconcile the two.

I'd say there are a lot of players in the squad that will need to be moved out and you can already see that is going to be a real challenge. Over the next two windows we're probably going to move on:

Wanyama
Rose
Vertonghen (End of Contract)
KWP
Vorm (End of Contract)
Eriksen
Foyth (Possibly according to ITK)
Dier (Possible)

loans for:
Skipp
Parrott
Cirkin
Whiteman

(At the very least)

I hope we are already working on deals for both now and the summer in terms of outs so we aren't scratching around in the final weeks of the summer waiting for outgoings before signing again.

Interesting quotes on Rose and Lo Celso after the match today. Sounds like he’s also had enough of Rose!

I thought the deal was compulsory if we qualified for European football. Either way we would be demented not to make this permanent. He is an absolute shining light in our play at the moment. That run today was pure class. It looked like he was playing from deeper and he was a part of pretty much everything good we did.

15M Loan Fee
40M obligatory if #Tottenham goes to any European Tournament
All for 80% of the economic rights
+ bonuses for Champions League

This is what I can find for the deal. I thought it was only if we get CL but it's European football and bonus if we make CL.

The results suggest we are on par with Watford and Southampton and just slightly above Norwich.

Are we playing any better under Jose ?

You can’t expect instant positive results consistently when a rebuild is needed. Mourinho needs time and backing, from both the club and us, the fans.

This is a long run, and it’ll be harsh to judge one of the most successful managers of the modern era before he’s had time and opportunity to create his own team

If he could win the Eurpa League with that Utd side we should have some hope for next season. (and maybe even the FA Cup in this). He he gets us a couple of trophies in the next couple of years then that’s his remit done. Spurs will have a new profile, Jose will most likely do one back to La Liga and we can all move on.

I’m sure that’s the extent of the deal with Daniel and I can see the logic behind it. The footy might not be a great watch but hopefully with a full summer and two TWs behind him, Mourinho will win more games with us than he loses.

And in the short term, with a couple of trophies in the cabinet, I can live with that.

I was quite critical of Jose early on but I think maybe we are starting to turn a corner. I know that for many on here results are all that count and I can understand that but disagree. For me I have to see the plan and enjoy what I'm watching.

I never expected results to happen from day 1 and perhaps the rot had set in further than I believed at the time but we are now starting to see what Jose wants the team to do.

It's still more direct than I would personally prefer and there is more chaos and less control than I would like but it's starting to take shape - I think if we'd had an actual striker on the pitch we'd have won comfortably in the first half today.

Onward and upward!

He hasn't worked miracles but i liked what i saw today (for the first 70mins at least), especially the speed we moved the ball forward. I like Jose, always have really, and I'd like to see what he does in the next few years. I'm excited.

I totally agree. I think that due to the shit show that this season has become, we need to drag ourselves over the line, get to the end of the season and see where we are. There’s a chance we can still sneak into the top four, maybe a good run in the fa cup and champions league. However, I do have a lot of confidence that given the time over the summer, and a few bob to spend and some decent training, Jose will get this team firing again.

Ultimately its shit however not as shit as it was before and some shit players are not as shit as before.
Amongst the shit we have some sparkle in the form of JT and Celso.
Its shit Kane is injured.
Potentially he could guide us through a pile of shit through a series of games to a trophy!

Just posted similar thoughts in the ratings thread but relevant here to. Maybe on reflection some of us have been to hard on Jose / the team. Yesterday was a tough game away at one of the in-form PL sides (as was the last game at Watford). Southampton had scored 2 goals in each of their last 4 games. We looked pretty solid, and were both comfortable and dangerous first half (when we easily could have been 3-0 up had Son and Moura brought their shooting boots, and Lo Celso’s shot not brushed Son’s foot in an offside position). We conceded at the death due to an individual mistake, the sort of mistake that is slowly becoming less frequent under Mourinho after a very poor calendar year in 2019.

As Mourinho gets players suited to his system (we badly need a target man), continues to weed out the players who are error prone, and gets more injured players back - we have Davies and Ndombele on the verge of a return, I can see his tactics becoming very effective and us becoming a team that is difficult to beat and has lots of goals in it. I generally don’t agree with his style of play, but as Ndombele and Lo Celso become more settled, influential and trusted, I think the football will be a lot better. It is essential we sign cover for Kane this week, and if we get the right player for his system, I think Jose can take us to 4th this year.

I think there are signs of the Jose plan emerging now and we’re becoming harder to beat and create chances against. If we can get a striker and a few more additions I can see us going from strength to strength.
