I know it was just a 4 minute clip and I know it led to the goal for dele but it fuckin annoyed me that when Vertonghen had the ball there was zero movement or a willingness from the midfield to receive a short pass so he ended up playing a long diagonal to aurier

There is no way JM would tell the midfield to go hiding when the centre backs have the ball. Surely not

Or the midfield were told when Verts gets the ball, get narrow on the left to create space for the long diagonal pass. Liverpool do this all the time. Sure, it might be lazy, and I appreciate neither of us know for sure, but it could as easily be a tactic being performed quite well.

My only experience playing football with players who'd played academy football revealed to be they were playing in schemes, I was basically constantly ad libbing. So it's probably not wise to draw too much from a highlights package.

The two teams starting the game appear to have been as follows.

In the home kit were: Lloris, Aurier, Foyth, Vertonghen, Davies, Winks, Skipp, Gedson, Dele, Bergwijn, Kane.

In the away kit were: Vorm, Marsh, Alderweireld, Dier, Sessegnon, White, Ndombele, Sissoko, Lucas, Lamela, Son.

Both of those line-ups were able to fluctuate fluidly from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 formations and gave Mourinho a chance to see plenty of pairings in action.

No Sanchez, Tanganga, GLC, Gazzaniga. Hopefully GLC isn’t the one that has covid he’s probably our best midfielder!

When all fit which is not often, we actually have a very decent squad, looking at this if you add in Sanchez Tanganga and GLC I think Jose’s ideal 22 moving to next season would be:

Lloris / Gazzaniga

Aurier / ??
Toby / Sanchez
Dier / Tanganga
Davies / Sess

Ndombele / Winks
GLC / Sissoko

Lucas / Gedson
Dele / Lamela
Son / Bergweign

Kane / ???

To me it’s quite simple the weaknesses are :
1. Back-up to Kane
2. RB
3. LB
4. CM if Ndombele can’t stay fit

Can we sort all of that out with free transfers? ??‍♂️

Looks like from the highlights that Jose is sticking to this lopsided 4-2-3-1, fine by me but only thing is as good as Aurier’s cross was for dele’s goal I don’t think he’s consistent enough with his crossing and passing etc for him to Basically be our main creative outlet!!

would be nice if it becomes more of a 4-3-3 as we defiantly have the players to play that way.
In response to the question, can we solve the problems with free transfers I would say is unlikely.
To put the club back where it was to 3/4, will require good quality in fact better than what we currently have, acquiring them will likely mean purchasing from other clubs who might be reluctant to sell.
Whilst every club will probably be affected by the covid 19 situation, it does always seem that everytime this club tries to move forward or achieve anything something comes up to stop that happening.
I fully expect the club to doss around for the next few seasons not doing much and raiding bargain bins for players exciting times.

Just need to fluke a new Dembele. Peak Dembele alone in this team and we'd compete. Just allowed us so much control in games. Always offered for the ball and could completely be trusted, at his peak, it hold onto it.

You're the type who gets annoyed that there's no cum shots in a 30 sec porn preview video.

I've been out of the loop since the season ended and if this question has been done forgive me and ignore.

Have your expectations changed? While I don't expect us to get top 4, I am expecting us to play a MUCH better style of football, he's had time on the training ground and has everyone back from injury (right now).

I was always willing to give him until the middle of next season, but he'll essentially have had 2 preseason, I want to see us hit the ground running next season, i won't have much patience if we don't.

If you are reading this Jose, I'm putting you on notice.
Oof, Jose you had better shape up mate.

Have been listening to some old Football Weekly podcasts, and the following quote about Mourinho while he was at United seems apropos for us too:

"What do United do? They don't press the ball, but they don't park the bus. They don't play counterattack but they don't play possession. They don't play short passes, but they don't play long passes. They're just 11 players on a pitch."

You may, might, might have picked up that they dislike Jose quite a lot. I really enjoyed that when he wasn't our manager. But now it's meant I don't listen to bits on Spurs because as a fan it's just not an actual reflection on us, our tactics or my experience as a fan.

Going to have to factor in both the pending outcomes of hearings in regards to both Eric and Dele. That'll probably shape the team as well. Could have put this in the starting 11 thread but eh, just as relevant here I guess.

They do dislike him, but I happened to agree with them on this point.

Does everyone know something I dont? I keep seeing everywhere top 4 is unlikely, which is true. But where the hell is everyone getting top 4 from? Did City somehow magically win their 2 year CL ban appeal and i’ve been under a rock? Did I dream City getting banned up and ive been going through the last 6 months not realizing it was a dream?

Mourinho just needs to find a way to get us up to 5th to get CL if they have it next season. I think he could do that. We have a decent enough squad.

Madness that we are still waiting to hear now even with the virus. Well probably find out on the morning of the Man Utd game they’re both banned for 9 matches.

unfortunately agree but we shall see.
I think if we'd had all the events start to go ahead and found a sponsorship naming rights deal we could've been about to really start splashing the cash but instead covid turned up and we just borrwed another £175m god help us lol.
