I'm not sure how many of United's buys are actually the managers choices, I doubt doubt one or two are but wasn't Woodward and their transfer policy being vilified before Mourinho even took over at United? It certainly has been since, which leaves enough doubt as to who Mourinho actually wanted or not so that we can't be sure. Personally, I think their approach to transfers has been awful and my guess is that both Sanchez and Pogba were Woodward/commercially driven, not to mention in a way managing the expectations of United supporters that they sign the 'best' which in Woodward's mind probably means the most expensive. And now they are looking for a DoF aren't they? That's a failure on Woodward, it's only a matter of time before he gets the Spanish archer IMO.

Luckily for Jose he’s just accepted a job with a chairman renowned for letting the manager get on with recruiting who he wants with zero meddling, so I doubt this problem will ever come up again

I wonder what Eric Deir's fitness levels are actually like right now. Because he's going to play a massive part going forward. Mourinho tried to sign him when he was at United.

He's probably been on the threadmill since the announcement...

Yee Haa!!!

A real winner, a truly ambitious appointment. Kudos to Levy. That's the way the club should go after Poch era is gone. Why always be the nicest guy around or the bridesmaid? Nearly there for sooo fucking long, this is a big step for us to be truly looked upon as a club and be feared playing us, and that we can go on and win something ffs.

This has been on his mind for months, he always talks well of us when on Sky.

I really think he is going to be incredibly determined

Weirdly it seems its been on his mind for years. He as always been weirdly overly nice to us.

Agree, that other than on his initial promise, probably the best time to have him as a manager, refreshed, hungry and with something to prove.

Well yeah, I doubt it too. They'll obviously have discussed it and both will be happy with how things stand. If it does rear it's head then you have to ask questions of Levy for appointing someone for whom it would have been such an obvious problem.

What we all want to know is what was agreed when the subject the transfer budget came up in these negotiations, because that biggest of big elephants in the room could surely not have been swerved with these two characters in discussions on the terms of the appointment....

Leery interested to see how he lines up? Who’s out at the moment with injuries or does he pretty much have a healthy squad to work with??

Can't stand the man. Spurs fan for 45 years and I've never been as disgusted with the club over how this has been handled. This could not be a worst fit.

1. Any youth players may as well go now. They'll get no chance here.
2. Turgid defensive football.
3. End of first summer transfer window there will be constant moans about how we have not supported him with 5 £80M buys.
4. Cue major sulk until December when we sack him.
Mourinho already quoted as saying he's looking forward to working with the academy. Something he's never said before.

Odious character. Hard to forget the eye gouging of another manager. Maybe we'll perk up a bit for a while, but I wouldn't bank on it. It's almost cute that he dropped the academy into his statement. I look forward to his eventual sacking.

Do you also hate Dembele for eye gouging Costa?

It's the backroom staff that is the problem for me. You need to have a no2 you can trust and is loyal and he currently doesnt have that. Not in favour of going down an ex spurs player route either
