I have a question/hypothetical regarding the Jose appointment and funds issue.

Somewhere along the line yesterday I read a few posts about how Joe Lewis was very much wanting us to sign Mourinho. The same Joe Lewis who AFAIK (which is admittedly not a lot) keeps himself and his money away from Tottenham as much as possible. Levy is the man who runs this club at the behest of Lewis, but Lewis (again from what I've read in the past) doesn't get involved in an investment sense unless Levy asks directly as this will affect Levy's pay cheque.

Jose is not cheap, his wages are huge, greater than every manager's bar Pep (correct me if I'm wrong). Such a thing coupled with buying out the coaches from Lille will have cost a lot, more than what we would expect Levy to have normally sanctioned. This type of spending seems out of character, like a teacher who is suddenly buying up properties left right and centre, there has to be a source for this new found wealth and spending pattern.

This brings me to my hypothetical. Has Uncle Joe put his hand in his pocket? If so, has that been at the request of Levy or because the man has suddenly decided he wants to throw some cash around? If we do spend significant money over the next 8 months, I'd have trouble understanding how we are coming by it.
As I remember, MP was a Lewis appointment - Levy wanted someone else.
Levy's status (if not height) has risen greatly since then with the building of the new stadium. If he said that he wanted MP out as he was destabilising the club, and wanted Mourinho instead, then Lewis would OK that, I think.

The other thought is that Enic are still fattening up the club for sale. A high profile manger is another piece in that puzzle

I was so glad to read that apparently when Mourinho and Levy met/ interviewed, Jose said you have the third best squad in the league, Levy agreed and was impressed. Ive said the same for ages on here, which was part of the reason why I wanted a Poch gone.He had the audacity to talk about we needed a rebuild like we have a shit squad, it was third best ffs. Third is par. Hopefully with Mourinho he can take us even higher though.

Poch truly lost the plot. I mean what did he expect Levy to do? Sell half the squad? It was one of many strange comments by Poch.

This. Said this as well multiple times. I was very happy to hear that Mourinho & Levy also thinks we have the 3rd best squad in the league.

Poch just ran out of excuses in the end, with his rebuild stuff. It was really embarrassing to say the least. He had the 3rd best squad in the league, end of.

And people wanted to give him that rebuild, even though in the summer we all agreed THIS was the year to push on? AND we were shit long before that. Christ...

I’m quite sure this was an attempt at humour but try something else mate. Poch deserves more respect than any other manager that’s been at the club since I’ve been a fan. Ok, Poch did not get us a trophy but what that man did for us the last 5 years is the foundation to win trophies. I just hope the we the fans, the players and the club never forget that.
Even José felt the need to pay his respects to the man and he’s only been here for 2 days. We’ve been here for the last 5 years (with Poch) and should always show the same respect and gratitude to that man and his staff ?
Listen mate, no one respects Poch more than I do. Go back to his thread and see I was Poch in all the way. I didn't sleep the night he was sacked and cried my eyes out when I saw the photo of him writing his goodbye message. This was a joke. As are you for replying in this manner.

I feel it's time to stop focusing all our attention on Mourinho now, and start concentrating on how the players are going to react to his arrival. We all know how important tomorrows game with the pikey scum is to both sets of fans, and I want to see if those same players who've been so crap during this calendar year, (and have effectively got Poch sacked)...have any professional pride about themselves, because make no mistake, Poch may be gone in body, but his spirit and his heart are still very much with us and he'll be hoping and praying we can beat that lot tomorrow because the players are still his boys and all of us fans are still in his heart.

No idea what has happened exactly BUT... I get the feeling Lewis is behind the whole thing. Telling Levy what to do. Things happened so quickly, with a lot of money going to different places. Feels like it was sanctioned from higher up.

Lewis issued order 66. o_O

I do get your point though hopefully we'll get that new manager bounce at the very least.

I know much has been made of the boring football but anyone here think he might change up his game?

Redknapp wasn't known for his fast-flowing attacking football, but he's giving me the best football i've ever seen at Spurs.
I think if the team performs well enough then the football will be good.
His Chelsea teams were good enough to give themselves 2/3 goal leads in games and they were allowed to express themselves.
United weren't good enough and so it was always safety first football.

Putting Poch on gardening leave and giving Mourinho £15M a year for 3 years is not really much different financially to Levy throwing money at Redknapp and subsequently Robbie Keane, Jermaine Defoe, Winston Palacios, Pascal Chimbonda and Carlo Cudicini in the January window in the '2 points from 8 games' season. Back then we were at risk of relegation which was financially unthinkable. This time we're at risk of no European football next season which is equally catastrophic financially, with the CL last season being worth close to £100M to the club. I don't think Levy needed Joe Lewis to sanction this.

We were also at risk of finishing outside the top 10 this season. There's money in each gained position in the league table.

We have heard the recent interviews following his appointment, and he's initially been saying and doing the right things, but the most immediate test of how much he has learned from his "unspecified mistakes" which he wouldn't elaborate on will be the same ones that put his statements to the test. He says he is humble, happy and he has learned from mistakes in the past, is this an indirect reference to him referring to how he reacts when things don't go his way ? He also says he is going to make new mistakes.

I strongly suspect that these theories and alleged changes will be put to the test most soonest in one or both of two of the following ways.

1. When he's in a post match interview and he's asked to comment on a questionable or borderline controversial VAR decision that goes against us and it costs us points. One thing we haven't yet been exposed to is Mourinho and VAR and how he reacts to it yet in the new current climate.
2. When he is asked to comment or what his reaction will be in public when, not if, Serge Aurier makes yet another rash and ill timed challenge that gets him sent off or gives away a penalty and it costs us points. Maybe that won't happen, but we all know Aurier, and we all know he has this trait in his locker, and he can't always surpress it indefinitely, however hard he tries and neither he nor us can control when it will happen next, but we all know it's highly likely it will.

If or more probably when, 1 if not 2 of these things happen how will Mourinho act ?
Will he
A. Revert to type and throw his toys out of the pram with a massive strop in front of the cameras that borders on embarrassment and draws ridicule and even more scrutiny from all quarters , and in the case of 2 will he revert to said type and publically throw said player under the new routemaster bus that he's mentioned ; or
2. Will he act differently ? Will those words he has recently uttered be shown for all to see in deeds, because we all know that actions speak louder than words.

I don't think it will be long before we find the answer to these questions out very soon. Who knows which way it will go ?

Loved this line as well:

'And doing it pretty well (being nice), sitting there beaming in black and purple, looking lean and twinkly and only occasionally resembling a highly intelligent killer-ventriloquist’s dummy.'

We should really ignore his Man U experience. Awful squad and replacing the Fergie legacy.

His press conferences are legendary...he plays the media.

All I know is that I was dreading he‘d end up with the Goons.

That translates as “I’m so pleased he’s with us??“.

Barney Ronays latest column in the Guardian and signs that the narrative is shifting to ‘hang on...this might actually be a good idea’.

Wow, that was quick.

A matter of hours ago Chelsea fan Barney was telling us it was a bad idea in his usual witty way.

Pretty much sums up the fickle nature of the press and the ridiculous scrutiny we're going to be under.

Bring it on I guess.
