Do love the insight we get from Mourinho's pressers. The stuff on CM especially was very good.

“I knew that [Tanguy] Ndombele not in the best condition. [Oliver] Skipp, not for a game of that dimension immediately, Eric Dier had played three matches in a row and I felt that Lucas Moura in that forward position could create problems for United. Combination if things but best position for him (Sissoko) is not as one of the double midfield players.”

As suspected he played the Winks/Sissoko partnership on Utd due to lack of options and the decision to use Moura. With hindsight I'm sure he'd change it. Maybe being brave with Skipp would have been better. I suspect he has learned a lot from weds regardless.

Good to see Skipp get a mention from Mourinho

Not news as he's obviously shown this throughout his entire career, but watching his press conferences for us the thing that shines through more than anything else is that he is so, so intelligent.

Probably best not to start Skipp at Old Trafford for the first game of the season, interesting to see if he's on the bench vs Burnley. I think he will be alternative to Dier for DM position when he needs a rest after Mourinho saw that Sissoko can't do it.

He talks about defensive process as opposed to putting blame on individuals and he's exactly right, we are not defending as a team properly yet so whilst you all put the blame on the likes of Sanchez, Winks, Aurier, Sissoko for isolated incidents and moments we need to look at how we defend as a collective for 90 mins, that's our biggest issue.

Indeed. But we have no idea how much money will be available now that the stadium is built. Anyone's guess.
I have heard so many times that we should have lots of money to spend next window yet somehow we never spend more than a fraction of what should be available. Don't see that changing any time soon.

I'm under no illusions that the manager is obliged to explain his decisions to the press or fans.

However, it makes a refreshing change to hear the reasoning behind the team selection on Wednesday. It may not have worked, in fact it palpably didn't, but knowing the thinking behind it makes it much easier to accept.

In his explanation about Sissoko's best position and why he had to play in the 2 despite Mou knowing that it's not his best position, Jose said "he's not an organiser".

Which sheds a lot of light on to our midfield problems.

It's not just about having a DM, but someone who can organise the shape and bark instructions at the players ahead of, and beside, him, and which is why some of the best captains, and readers, of the game, play this role.

Which also reveals why Jose likes Dier, because Dier has the personality for such an organiser role. Just needs to have more emotional control and mental fortitude.

And why Ndombele and GLC will never start as the 2 cm.

For those who watch the youth teams and the reserves, perhaps can shed light on whether Skippy can live up to this?

Also, worth pointing out that Jose was the one who groomed Mctominay to play in the CM role, and he was the palpable difference (Rashford was up for it of course) as compared to Utd's previous games with Perreira and Fred as the 2 CMs

It's nice being given full information and not being treated like children with it. Refreshing honesty.

Yup. What an asset he is, especially this mellower but motivated Jose.

Saw him do punditry in September, it was his first time perhaps. Think it was our game against the Goons. It was almost like he was nervous waiting his turn as the pundits all spoke, thinking of what he wanted to say. When he did he obviously wiped the floor with them and they all sat in silence like, what is he on about? ? The presenter then said 'Er, thanks Jose....' and you could see Jose almost proud of himself like yeah I could do punditry, these guys are all utter donkeys compared to me.

Anyway, with this amazing asset on our side I truly hope Daniel gives him what he wants or it will be a squandered opportunity.

Roll on Saturday.

Sorry for another quick fire post. But its been something I've been thinking about the last week. Something he said on wednesday about him telling the players about Rashford and how he likes to cut in and shoot. In his interview he said (when talking about the ashford goal) "the boys, knew, the boys knew".

Also in the article I posted the other day about players being given every bit of information they need about the opposition and players and what they are likely to do. Mourinho gives the players all they need to win.

That's great if you've got really good players . But, and this is where it fell over for him slightly in the past. If the players cant do it, cant listen and take on the information and carry it through on the pitch, then thats when things will go tits up for him. If our players don't do what he wants, then they'll be out the team whoever they are. That's where it went wrong at man utd with pogba for example. If that happens here, he has to have the backing of the chairman to change things if we want him as our manager for longer than 5 minutes.

Now do we have enough of those players to take it on board, thats the question?

I think we do. I don't think we have enough to fill a match day squad, but I have unrelenting faith in us having 11 players who can form a deadly starting line up. Already we see some of them, and we see that other candidates are struggling with fitness at this point. But after the Christmas program we'll have a really good starting 11.

Well, maybe they could contribute with some consistency and energy at least? I think that would be quite a big difference to what we have now, with out being worldies. Right back is a bigger worry because I can't see KWP doing much and I'm not sure about Foyth as rb.

We don't have one player worthy of playing at RB and whose fault is that? Although Levy is a tight arse this defence situation isn't Levy's fault. We have signed too many midfielders/forwards with scant regard for the state of the defence. Sanchez MAY be all right in a couple of years time, KWP/Foyth don't cut the mustard, Aurier is a one man disaster zone and so it goes on.

Exactly what I mean about not squandering this opportunity with an amazing asset like Jose.

We need to add to this squad with the right players.

Saw this earlier and was fuming. In some ways you have to respect Sissoko for coming out and saying this, but why are the players already ignoring the manager after 4 games?

Be nice if they had a brain cell between them, wouldn’t it?

Especially as it took them 4 years to start doing it to Poch!

Complacency, pretty sure these players will get a major surprise at some point.
