Footballs moved on.

Jose is the modern day Fat Sam. Long ball shite.

Spot on. So obvious after Wolves game we needed Winks or even Eriksen to come in to midfield to provide a link to the forward players.

But this is Jose, and especially in the big games he always reverts to type (negative, cautious).

Once upon a time would have worked 90% of the time, but football has moved on, unlike our manager.

I cannot believe that Jose - who spends all week watching the players train - can leave out Ndombele and Lo Celso and pick Sissoko and Dier in CM. I also cannot believe that after the first 5 minutes today he did not realise Lampard totally had his system sussed and did not change it. What needs to happen is that he needs to choose 2 from 3 - Moura, Son, Kane - and play a 3 man CM. Winks, Lo Celso and Ndombele woudl dominate possession against most teams, leaving us to play a proper back 4 - none of this lopsided malarky - and 2 pacey players either side of Kane (or Son). Today we were out thought and out fought. We have very little chance of top 4 with the set of players we have if Jose is going to ignore midfield.

Meh he'll be gone within 2 years anyway once he publicly falls out with the players and makes a spectacle of himself at press conferences and performances like this are more common.

Better levy really start thinking about keeping an eye on some of the upcoming great young managers and director of football

2 years seems very optimistic right now

All good teams do pressing nowadays and it starts with a forward. Not sure if it's Mourinho's or Kane's fault because he stopped doing it for Pochettino too this season. Route one doesn't work against good teams anymore, unless you get very lucky and then you need great defence that we lack. We will concede in 90% of matches and counter attack tactics get fucked if you concede first. To be fair you can't do much else that will work when your midfield is shit. And FBs are getting close to strikers in importance to the team building in modern era and ours are quite shit. TAA and Robertson make more quality passes in one match than ours in years, I wish I was hyperbolic but I mean it literally. Pochettino started slowly with us with many saying Southampton got the better end of the stick with getting Koeman instead so it's still too early to judge. We won't really know until we get better players. In any case we need a rebuild and at least 5-6 new players, I'd rather play Skipp, Tanganga, Foyth... then some who clearly don't give a fuck.

Jose can only look at himself for that first half.

Hes a smart guy and surely he can see that just hoofing it up to Kane is just a waste of possession 99% of the time.

First port of call has to be getting in a top class CDM.

I’m still on board the “let’s play shit football and win shit” train but you kinda need to win, especially big games. I understand he’s only just come in but we’ve been fucking shit in the 2 big games we’ve had under him so far.

Does us no favours when we're so easily pressed. Lucas, Sissoko, Aurier and Dier aren't the quickest of thinkers, and need to much time to ponder their next move. By then, both themselves and most of their passing options are cut off.

I hope the period of playing the players that he knows more than others is over.

There are legit solutions on the bench to solve some of the issues.

What's worrying is how much we will need to spend now.

CDM, RB, GK, LB maybe a RW too.[/QUOTE]

Mourinho should be embarrassed. Thought he had spent time on a new approach to football during his time off. A whole new backroom staff, second best paid coach in the league against a Chelsea team that have just be beat by Everton and Bournemouth and is what we get?
