Well obviously he's not that clever. In this business you get your signings in early an get players settled. Year after year we're still waiting to see what dregs are left over when the other teams have got their deals done.

He gets them in as early as possible so they could be fast-tracked through the Pochettino induction period of 6 months on the bench.

In seriousness, I recently posted a huge list of players we've signed prior to pre-season starting and it's massive. This "late signings" thing is a lazy stereotype that has very little truth in it.

The one thing Levy has said consistently in THST meetings, when questioned, is that it is difficult to buy early as many clubs want to tie up signings before they sell; if you get enough doing that, it ends up the exact same process of buying a house in a chain.

Really? United, City, Chelsea, all get the deals done on the players they want and all have been successful. OK they have the cash but they get the targets they want.

I guess you've not been paying much attention there - every single one of those clubs has recently missed out on players they want, and we have a manager from one of them who left after they didn't get him the players he wanted. They also just missed out on Haaland.

There aren't any clubs out there any more who get all they targets they want. It may appear that way if you don't pay attention, but basic examples are very high profile (e.g. City for Jorginho and Sanchez).

I'm assuming this thread is going to be chock full of mistruths that can be used to have a dig at the club.

Jesus, you get that aggressive because someone made a little image appear under a post you made on an internet forum? Have a word with yourself.
But why do it it's just annoying. I don't mind if you explain, it's a forum to give your opinion on a subject no one will agree with everything I / you say, but if you disagree just give your reason. That's all.

Happy New Year.

I do understand that not all clubs get every player they want that's going to happen, but we leave it so late at times to sign players who end up staying at the club they were leaving. In the last transfer we were after one but ran out of time due to one reason or another. Either we weren't serious about signing him or Levy was dragging his heels as per usual.

He's explained that before, though - we are after specific players now, top players. These players, like Dybala who I assume you are referencing, aren't necessarily available early on in the window. No chance in hell would we have bought Van der Vaart for £8m if it wasn't late in the window. Also no chance in hell was Dybala our primary target, nor did we think he'd be available.

You have to differentiate between "leaving it late" and "dragging our heels", and the reality which is trying to take advantage of deals that are only available at that particular point in time.

It's a catch-22 situation, because sometimes teams need to replace these top players, and if you sell first then selling teams will try and turn the screw on you, and if you buy first then the teams you want to sell to will then try and screw you over.

Really? I’m completely the opposite. It feels that we’ve pushed on since Poch has gone, especially attacking wise. Plus for me going to games is more enjoyable now than the last year under Poch.
Oh, I hear you. Like I said, there's been an obvious uptick and I never expected us to go on a 3 month unbeaten run or anything. I meant more compared with/vs. the rest of the league it didn't feel like we pulled up trees but 3rd best record since he took over speaks for itself.

Hopefully the league continues on like this and, outside the top 2 or 3, teams are inconsistent. If we can get top 4 after the start we had and the mid season change then we'll have dodged a major bullet.

And Happy New Year everyone!

I think it's a lot due to the unreasonable expectations a few of us have of Mourinho to come in to the job and immediately solve all of our problems.

I personally believe that with this form and with almost any other manager than Mou at the helm we'd be impressed with what's been achieved in such a short span of time and we'd all agree that things would likely get even better given more time.

Instead we already have some fans calling for Mous head despite us having the 3rd best form in the league since his appointment which is bordering to insane if you ask me.
Absolutely. I'm a fan of what's happened already, was pro change, and still taken aback by that form table. If he can manage to somehow work with the midfield and get the defensive side solidified then we've a strong chance of somehow getting to 4 again, which is slightly remarkable.

In all honesty the start in my opinion has been pretty Tim Sherwood, minus the constant histrionics and a huge amount more PR savvy. Results have been better than the performances. We've found, or at least did in the first few games, a way to play with fast transitions that was effective and got the attack firing and individuals looking good. Lets be honest though, we're also wide open, have almost zero control on any game, and so if we've met a team that is either half-decent or at least organised and putting up some resistance then it's not looked very good, has it.....

That's just opining on the evidence so far. Beyond that it's fairly pointless to argue much more. Mourinho has come in mid-season, he's said he wont change much, rock the boat, and will have to work with what he's got for the rest of the campaign, things will continue in this fashion. A lot of games where we can overwhelm the lesser teams with our attacking talent, a fair few though no doubt where we will look pretty muck. A lot of fans still seem to be eyeing the top four and have real hopes of it, maybe we can but personally I still treat this season as a write off and have zero expectations.

I also think another factor to include is that Hugo is not there.

Dont see how you can draw comparisons with Sherwood in any way, who has no class compared to Jose.

Surely its good that we can achieve results better than our performances as that was lacking before.

If we are lucky we may get one or two in during the January Transfer Window but basically Mourinho, IMO, is just keeping the side going as best he can until the summer. Then he will have a real sort out. Already, again IMO, he is starting to sideline Dier and some others.

Appallingly bad. Not sure what people expected when they were whining for Mourinho to be appointed.

4 points against Brighton, Norwich, Southampton. Dog shit long ball tactics, still never subbing Dele. Worst defensive record in the prem, new manager bounce and nothing else. We fired one of the best managers in the world for this has been. If anyone still thinks this was Pochs fault I’ve no idea what to say to you.

Fuck you Levy.

Well the hope of the last few years has now well and truly gone. We are getting worse as a team and have not seen us so clueless for a very long time.
Think I will sell my ticket for the Liverpool game as I don’t think I can face is getting thrashed.

He is hampered by how unbalanced squad is and first choice keeper being injured.

Needs to go 4-3-3 now, be a defensive fucker and play friggin’ Skipp as defensive midfielder. Even give Winks a go in a midfield three as might actually suit him more! And as poor as Winks has been there was a player in there before we turned to shit in general and still feel there’s potential there. Certainly more than playing Sissoko or Dier there.

Bench Dele‘s brother and deploy wingers up top either side of Kane (or if Kane now fucked play Son, Moura and Sessegnon unless we actually shock horror buy another forward in january!). I think Parrott should have sub appearances as he’s still a bit young and centre forward one of the most high pressure positions for a youngster.

If we don’t get midfielders in January then we are incompetent.

Yes right back and left back are vulnerable (although Cirkin could be an option at left back as quite promising) but it all starts in midfield were games are controlled and won.

No more Eriksen and Dele should be benched. And Sissoko on bench too as he is not good enough to start either.
