Can someone tell me how did Mourinho earn this time everyone says to give him? Why had Poch not earned this magical time to turn things around?
Because Poch had 5 years to win a trophy with our best team for a long time and didn’t. We need a winner simple as that.

I keep hearing about Kane following Poch to United, but wasn't it only few months ago that people (including at least one ITK) were saying that Kane lead the calls for Poch to go?

So what's changed?

Are people now saying this was an elaborate plot by Kane to go to another club led by Poch :cautious:

I think our squad is in an awful state, a group of flawed players that are all capable of (differing levels of) individual brilliance but are not great at passing/moving football all with differing levels (politely) of mobility and football intelligence, so team moves are an issue and have been for some time, take out the individuals most capable of individual brilliance was always going to hamper us. Jose obviously was aware that as a team we have struggled for some time to break teams down with possession football and has tried to invite teams onto us to use certain players' quick instinctive play on the counter. This is also hampered by absentees and puts more strain on the defense as we have to do it (defend) more.

I don't know what the answers are but can't see any quick fix unfortunately :(

Jesus I have no disrespect for Poch and loved what he done for us. But the truth is football is merited on winning silverware and that’s what people remember in our history. They don’t remember someone that bought the best out of youth to nearly win a trophy. Like I said he was a great man but he didn’t get us over the finish line On multiple occasions.

I will remember the CL run above anything else I've experienced as a Spurs supporter. It was the pinnacle of my enjoyment following the team for almost 3 decades. Not to say that trophy's don't matter, but winning the league cup or fa cup these days is really quite low down the list of achievements. More significant to be competing for a title and mixing it up with Europe's best in the CL.

Scoring for fun? In December after the Utd game, we scored 5 against Burnley, played well that day. But after that in our next 5 PL games up to and including Southampton when Kane went off injured late second half, we scored 6 goals in the following 5 games, that's not really scoring for fun. We could score goals but we were never really in control of games.

But it's not just about the scoring, it's about the WAY we play. It's not and wasn't sustainable. I had the same arguments with people over AVB, they were clinging to positives saying we're getting results but it wasn't sustainable and eventually everything collapsed as it was always going to.

You can't allow every team to dominate you. You have to play with some control in matches, both defensively and offensively. You take the pressure off your defence by keeping the ball. You work your way up the pitch so that you don't have to cover immense ground on every attack.

I totally get Son and Kane being out affects us but the style of play with and without them was still very much the same in most games. Surrender possession, lump the ball to Kane or make a 40-70 yard counter attack play. We still had no control over matches.
So we weren't crap all the time then, well, it's a start. We haven't let all teams dominate us and in some cases, City and Liverpool come to mind, we ended up, with a little help from a red card, getting a fine result in one and if memory serves the last 15 against Liverpool we were all over them ... Finishing, as it has been in spells though out this season, letting us down.

Southampton we were struggling from the first minute, that was such a poor game of football, I think I made that clear at the time.

The games in between, from Burnley through to the first game against Norwich (the draw I think) once again we had spells where those teams couldn't cope with us, it wasn't always 'hoof' ball and we weren't always dominated. I mean that's how I view it obviously.

The correlation between our play of the last (shall we say five games) and the loss of Sonny (ignoring but not ignoring Kanes injury) has rendered us blunt - misses, greedy play and in some cases not having a shot - that'll happen when you have make shift forwards, out of form (hated in some quarters) attacking mids.

Our play over the last two games has involved passing and moving as well as the switch of play over a long distance, not sure it's always a hoof or a player having to carry it 30/40/50 yards although I thought Lo Celso did so to great effect against Norwich the other night.

Personally, I've seen the 'green buds' people are looking for in regard to our attacking play. Not so much when it comes to the back four. Doesn't help having Hugo out for so long does it (correlation again?) maybe. It's not as bad as perhaps you are making out, but it's one persons view, things I have been told cannot always be changed on the internet.

It's been said literally 1000 times in this thread, Poch's heart was no longer in it. Why would he be given time if ultimately it seemed like he didn't want it?

You've been constantly slating every single possible angle when it comes to Mourinho, and constantly being shot down with facts. I'll give you one thing, you're a tenacious person, however it might be time to give it up mate.

Fun.............................fun.....................(scrathes chin and looks pensive)..................................Oh, yes! I think I remember now.
I've had fun watching some of our football and matches ... Not every game under every manager in the last decade has been a hoot, has it? Let's not get bogged down in semantics.

Ok fair play - good post and sorry if I was a bit reductive of your argument. As I said before, I do completely agree with you re: the short termists. He does deserve time and support and to write him off now or slip into mindless criticism is both unhelpful and needless (although personally I shall remain cautiously pessimistic) (y)
As I remain cautiously optimistic. A pleasure talking as always, buddy. :)

Can you, (both you specifically and the universal, generic you) stop this obsessive Pochettino debate.
Look, it's simple, some of us are Tottenham fans, some are Pochettino fans only. And Pochettino fans are welcome as Tottenham fans, but not welcome to bring him up on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on on and on and on and on and on and on

And be some knight in online shining armour who saves the reputation of their man crush.

I just don't see those green buds personally.

Having said that, even though I disagree with you on this topic, I respect your willingness to debate this in-depth with balance, fair play to you :)?

Yeah, it is a fine debate. It's also easier when (well personally speaking) taking the raw emotion of 'after the game' out of it. Clear minds and all that.

Same to you mate.

I just can’t I’m afraid!

I just think back to how many times this group of players have pulled us Ofer the line. Sure they’ve let us down lots in big games but ultimately they’ve done enough to pull us through. We are yet to see that under Mourinho but if there is one manager that you’d think would be able to harness that type of mindset it’s him. He needs to find it in the players. If they still have it or course. There’s a big question mark over that.
With Sonny and Kane I'd say we'd definitely be in the conversation.
My negativity for the rest of the season stems from the idea that by the time they are back it could be bordering impossible.
I just dont see how we are going to pick up many points until then...I'd fucking love to be wrong mind.

Because Jose has been here 4 months mate.

Poch was given plenty of time to turn it around and couldn't.

This shouldn't need explaining.

Would you give Jose a full season in charge before making a judgment?

Sure, I don't lay the blame for the current mess on him.

I do however expect a bit more than he has shown and not necessarily in terms of results. Our play is awful and the injuries are just a convenient excuse as it was bad before they got injured. It's always about him and there are always excuses, the constant negativity is hard to take. For a man of his experience and for what he is earning, he needs to find a way, a system that works without a number 9 - there is no point in moaning about it every time he speaks. It is what it is, he needs to get on with it.

We have lost 4 in a row for the first time since 2003 apparently - if he showed some balls on the pitch as he does off it we would have beaten Norwich but we were simply not interested until they scored. We just have no desire to play the game, no interest and no intent and that has been evident for some time.

I can't bear to watch us play, it's awful and yes I did expect a bit more from him. 15M a year should get you more than what we are seeing even considering its 3-4 months in.

People are also forgetting he got a whole season to change things around when he first came in.

There was a poll opened on here Nov 2014 "Will Poch Survive".

The year Leicester won the title I strongly believe if we had mourinho in charge we would of got over the finish line in 1st. Poch had the best Tottenham team in the last 2 decades and didn’t win anything. Mourinho would of simple as that. I love Poch but he’s still a nearly man Until he wins some silverware.
There’s every chance that had Jose been our manager that season that Kane would have been eventually been sold to a Chanpionship club after he signed Demba Ba or some such “experienced striker”.

Mourinho managed a team that were reigning champions in the Premier league that season and he really excelled there didn't he. Most stupid comment ever.
