Oh come on January is always stupidly difficult for every side, and three weeks with no friendlies or time to try new things is not a pre season. Christ the first three weeks of a normal pre season is basically just fitness training.

In fairness, I’d argue that we look like one of the most unfit teams since the restart. Some of that can be attributed to players just coming back from injury, but it really looks like a whole squad issue.

It's pretty much what I expected from Mourinho, I was never that excited by his appointment.

Yes we can blame the players too, but Mourinho just doesn't make the best use of them, and often doesn't change tactics when we are struggling. Any idiot could see our approach today with wide crosses wasn't working at all, it was embarrassing to watch the "attacks" break down time after time with simple clearances by their defenders.

I really think he doesn't care that much, reminds me of the time we appointed George Graham. We need to get a young hungry manager in, with passion for the club and performances week in week out

No, but we all know where this is going. He's facing a transfer window where there's likely gonna be very little money and business will be slow, so once he falls out with these players it's terminal.
Right if he is going to have personal digs at players fine. But if general non specific comments like these, which have a dual function btw, offend players than they can go.

A lot of truth in that comment, sadly though, how many years as fans have we been questioning it though?

It's pure Jose spin. He came in saying the squad was good enough. Now (8 months later) the line is 'now i know my players have a shit mentality'. It's nothing more or less than Jose attempting to shift the blame and manage the narrative. The narrative is all he seems interested in managing these days tbh.

Who could we get if Jose did go at the end of the season?

Other than the guy at Leipzig who would be perfect but is in high demand.

It all comes down to Levy. He clearly thinks we're not too far gone from the team of 3-4 years ago and we simply needed a new manager, new style of play or whatever. He needs to accept that we missed our chance, largely because of him, and that's that. We should have strengthened the team every single season and we rested on our second place laurels. It's annoying but it's done now. Time to move on and learn from our mistakes.

At our best, under Poch, we had Dembele, Walker, Rose, Vertonghen, Alderweireld and Eriksen who have not been replaced with equal or superior players in the most part. We should have done this two or three players at a time, slowly integrating them into a constantly improving, fluid team rather than waiting to replace them all at once, and this is the result. Turgid football with no real direction, halfway between the new breed and trying to be the team of old, but not really either.

Wake up and smell the coffee, Levy. It's already too late but this is about damage limitation now. Don't let it get any worse.

He’s not saying anything different than what we have though is he?
But we're not the manager though.

Very few encouraging signs and if doing a tally there's been more signs that are worrying.
Can't lie I didn't want him anywhere near our club and I was one of the 7.7% brigade but even I thought it would start better than this.

Fair enough. I don't see this magicking into something good though.

Looking at the City/Liverpool match you can just tell that they were told and encouraged to play football. Both sides. Even in Poch’s worst times he did the same. Now compare that with jose who asks teams to not trust themselves but trust the opposition to make mistakes and then capitalize. He is a coward.

He's far too one dimensional for the modern game. He's living on past reputation that is now worn out, tired and dismissed

So, the season is over. Time for Jose to stop playing it safe and take a closer look at what he has at his disposal for next season. This means more game time for: Gedson, Sess, Skippy, NDombele. No point in screwing around at this stage as it doesn't matter where we finish in the middle of the table. From now on out it's all about planning for next season. Time to truly evaluate who has the right attitude. And for him to also try playing a few different formations. Clearly his version of the 4231 doesn't work in the slightest with what we have. And today proved, without a shadow of doubt, that there are FAR TOO many players in the squad who lack a winning mentality. They need to be shown the door, and replaced with players who know what it means to win.

He’d done well at Dortmund and he was always one of the names linked with a top job. Mourinho has the top jobs and people saw us as a step down for him.
He's done well but his last 3 years there was without any major trophies and in his last season there they were in relegation spot in middle of the season. It's not a *rise*.
For Mourinho their fans are now realising that their 2nd place finish was very good with this defence

Are you serious? What do you think we will get for that lot??!! ?
btw I think it would be silly to sell most of those players. The rot goes much deeper than individuals and most of those players genuinely are good enough and most of them would go to top sides.

but precovid it would look like this

Ndombele 40m
Lucas 20m
Sissoko 10m
Aurier 10m

Sure I've missed one out but I actually think these are possibly lower than what they would actually go. I mean we sold Tripps for 20m, and we sold Janssen for 6m and aging crocked Dembele went for 15m. The market was crazy. Post covid, who knows.

he needs to drop the bias he has towards certain Portuguese speaking players that should not be on the pitch ahead of others...

Right manager or wrong manager the players are the biggest issue.

Mourinho might not be the one to rebuild but this team is lacking in quality. There are a lot of mid table players in the squad.
