Martin Peters was a smooth elegant player who Alf Ramsey said was ten years ahead of his time. There's a good piece by Phil McNulty on the BBC sport page,
BBC sport
Was one of the best.

One great footballer but also one fantastic human being.

I will forever remember him taking time to sign an autograph for me after a game, and asking where i came from and how long i'd been a Spurs fan. Nothing appeared to be too much for the man.

Gone but never forgotten.

One of those players who, as a kid, I'd always say, when playing football......"and it's Peters - what a goal".

Gutted. RIP Martin.

Sad news. A suspect there will be a well respected minutes silence today with a chance to pay our respects.

On the field I see glimpses of him in Dele
Off the field, not really.
His autobiography aptly entitled
'The ghost of 66'
RIP Martin Peters.

St. Peter won't even see him coming as he appears unchallenged at the pearly gates. Happy memories of a superb player.

Strange as I don't remember Peters being nicknamed the " ghost " but I do know for a fact John White was "the ghost of white hart lane "
His son wrote a book with the word " ghost " being in the title .
Not that it matters and as I say perhaps my recall of facts is diminishing .

That's right he wasn't but I was just listening to Perry Groves on talksport and he said when he was younger for years after Martin Peters retired football commentators would say about a player "he ghosted in like Martin Peters" and thinking back he's right they did.
He was the definitive version.

Very sad.

My aunt was a teacher in East Ham in 68, met him and got a signed photo for me, mainly because I have same initial/surname.

When he moved to Spurs I started supporting them, soon to be 50 years ago..... (y)
