a poor performance, got the penalty but not sure it deserved a red.

from what I could watch in 20 second spells we looked slow on the ball, 2nd to every ball, and luck we had a ref that gave every slight touch a free kick (though missed a fair amount). to be honest I wasn't sure we wanted it.

Didn't see the game - absolutely baffled that Llorente didn't start. Who played up top?

I really want to give it to Lamela for the goal and assist (that reverse pass into Dele was a thing of beauty) and Gazz for the two pen stops but I’m actually going to give it to Aurier for being on point all match. Completely different player this season and should be first choice RB in my opinion.

On a negetaive side I thought Davies was shocking in every aspect and Sanchez looked a complete mess, some of his clearances at the death were almost comical. Aside from that Aurier going off injured was bad news. There’s not much point bad mouthing Sissoko at this point, his technical ability does not match the style of football we play so is completely out of his depth. Not his fault.

As for Poch, another dodgy as fuck line up that offered 0 until he brought on a focal point for our attack. I think if Llorente had started we would have won easily.

Can’t be assed to go into anymore detail as the game was pretty dull on the whole and most of the team were meh.

Oh and we won a penalty shoot out... who would have thought that was possible!?

Good performance on the ball, defence all at sea when attacked though. More pluses than minuses, and some selection headaches for Pochettino now for the weekend. Deserved to win in regular time.

Gazzaniga was fine overall barring one horrible kick. Two good penalty saves. First goal was very powerful from close range, second was a horrible deflection.

Aurier was good overall. Could have been stronger on their first goal perhaps, but Success is a juggernaut so I wouldn’t detract too much. Disciplined defending, dangerous going forward, good link play and seems a yard quicker. I hope he’s not injured.

Sanchez was a horror show. Sliced clearances, bad reading of the game, poor passes, all in all one to forget. The biggest culprit on the first goal with some awful anticipation.

Alderweireld was good, some nice passing, cool under pressure and several good interceptions and mopped up well.

Davies didn’t really contribute much in either direction. He tucked in a lit which left his flank vulnerable, and he didn’t really get forward at all.

Wanyama I expected more from. Nothing bad per se, but this was a chance to stake a claim and he didn’t take it. Not the all action player of old.

Sissoko gave his usual effort and the intention was there but beyond straight line running he offered little. Gets into good areas so I think there’s a brain there but execution is surely missing.

Winks started poorly, weak and unionising, but he had a good second half, proactive and driven with more bravery to try to make something happen. First half he reallly did look lost though,

Lucas was mixed, verging on poor bar a couple of flashes. Didn’t seem to link with anyone and had a heavy touch at times. Not sure quite what position he was playing either.

Dele was good, drove at Watford throughout, imaginative with his range of passing and took responsibility to push us up the pitch. My man of the match.

Lamela was overall good, fought for every inch, customary booking. Took care of the ball well, proved constantly, positive with his passing and started a good move from which he scored our second.

Dembele made our second without getting a nosebleed, Son gave us unpredictability and pace and put Watford on their heels, Llorente missed a good chance but otherwise actually got involved pretty well and gave us another dimension.

Well that's weird.
It was such a poor move from Poch, essentially we had Lamela and Lucas rotating as false 9s with Dele given a free roam no 10 roll. It resulted in a lot of side to side passes and 0 shots. Was such a tactiacal falier and made things very easy for Watford defensively.

I thought wanyama did ok considering 1st start. There’s not much in it between him and dier. I think with a run of games he’d supersede dier. Davies has been appalling since pre season.

Gazzaniga 7 - Penalty saves FTW

Aurier 6 - Pretty decent. Three times he got caught with leaving a player get goal side of him, including the first goal, but without seeing the replays because the stream kept freezing I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say it was more the system that got him into trouble. Good cross for Llorente.
Sanchez 5 - Shakey. That clearance from the corner was comical and worryingly not uncommon.
Alderweireld 6 - Okay. Had to unsure players either side of him which didn't help him.
Davies 5 - Was better in the second half when he wasn't asked to play as a wide forward. Got lucky with his mistake.

Winks 6 - Poor first half, but not his fault as I mentioned in the match day thread. Much better second half playing in his position in a better formation.
Wanyama 6 - Another who wasn't helped with the system.
Sissoko 6 - Same as Wink. Had a decent start to the second half before coming off.

Alli 6 - Similar to Lamela. Goal contribution aside he was poor
Lamela 6 - Done well for the two goals, but was poor other than that. Gave it away way too easily for their equaliser.
Lucas 5 - Not a ST. Poor movement and didn't do anything with the ball.

Really bizarre. Llorente seemed reasonably sharp in preseason; had lost a bit of weight and I thought he might get some more chances. Surely this was the perfect opportunity. Genuinely gobsmacked he didn't start him. He's the only back-up striker we have. What sort of message is that to send. Lucas didn't need to play - he's been starting every league game and been playing well.

Entertaining second half of twists and turns.
There are a few candidates for motm.
Gazza, for another reassuring performance and two good pen saves.
Dele, more for being capt. and scoring both pens under pressure.
Lamela, for a lovely finish. He started the move outside his own box, went the full length of the pitch, and finished the counter attack with an exquisite dink with the outside of the foot. His goal scoring so far this season is giving me a half mongrel.

A couple of dodgy performances from Sanchez, Davies, Maura. Which where overwhelmed by some nice stuff from Aurier, Toby and cameos from an improving Winks and Son.

Disappointed not to see Llorente or KWP starting.

And Lucas looked out of it tonight, maybe one or two runs that I can think of, but they were away from goal. I am starting to get concerned that Poch isn’t quite sure how to use Lucas and i feel likes it’s starting to mess with his game. Ether way this match was crying out for Llorente, just being a target man and letting Lamela, Dele and Son move around him. There was 0 reason to start Sissoko, Vic and winks were more then enough in midfield.
