Tottenham eye £17million deal for ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’ Memphis Depay

http://metro.co.uk/2014/06/20/totte...-new-cristiano-ronaldo-memphis-depay-4769231/

ottenham are working on a £17million move for Holland World Cup star Memphis Depay – dubbed the new Cristiano Ronaldo.

The PSV winger is rated as one of the best young players around, and he showed his quality after coming off the bench to help the Netherlands down Australia earlier this week.

Spurs scouts, who are attending most World Cup matches looking for talent, were present and a deal to sign him is now on the cards.

Depay is also a target for Manchester United but Mauricio Pochettino believes he can win the 20-year-old over with a detailed plan on his development.

Pochettino is keen to develop exciting young players at White Hart Lane and that will attract Depay, who has previous insisted he would only leave PSV for the right club.

Tottenham are set for a shrewd period of summer business, but a big bid for Depay shows the club’s intentions to develop players still remains strong.

Yes when I have seen him he has looked impressive although I haven't seen enough of him to know how consistently he plays well
Seems a high price but if he was playing in say La Liga or Serie A rather than the Eredivisie it probably wouldn't seem that expensive

Haven't seen nearly enough of this kid to really know much, but the very little i have seen i have he looks like he has the ability to be a really impressive player who would fit into Poch's system pretty well.....

But if United really are in for him we probably won't get a real shot at him.....

Was impressed with him against Australia when he came on, nice pass to RVP and decent strike even though GK should've saved it.

Also, isn't there already a thread?

We should be going all out for him, along with Vilhenna. Would have been nice if we showed interest before the world cup though.

I can't see more money being splashed on another wonder kid.

Levy cannot ever decide whether to risk good money on a no namer, or to pay the market rate for ready-made stars.

Would love him. All depends on if LvG really wants him or not. While he obviously will have suitors, I think they would have to be considered the favorites if they are in on him.

Thinking of Depay, Eriksen and Lamela in an attacking 3 is boner inducing stuff.

This is the time in the World Cup where we get linked to every player who scores a goal, right? I remember the heady days 4 years ago when we were after Forlan and Luis Fabiano and Cavani etc etc etc.

I'd love Depay, but it's hard to take any of this stuff seriously.

Great talent and he's already a player who could potentially start for us at the start of the season. Doubt we'll get him though.

Thanks, now I have "Walking in Memphis" stuck in my head.

Would be a great signing but can't really see it happening.
