As recently as 18 March I said: “We shall all need to work together to ensure the impact of this crisis does not undermine the future stability of the Club.” The decision by governments around the world to effectively close down economies with unheard of peacetime impacts on civil liberties in order to minimise the terrible effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is the right one to protect human lives. The crushing devastation on industries in many countries, the inter-dependence of international trade and travel in every aspect of our daily life is only now beginning to be felt. Every person on this planet will be affected and in my lifetime I cannot think of something so impactful.

And none of the millionaires at the club can come together and pay the remaining 20% for the staff that keep the club running and support the players in succeeding by feeding them, cleaning all their stuff and maintaining the stadium and training ground?

Any team that plays consistent European football that won't pay their non-playing staff are a joke.

Gotta make sure that the players can buy a new land rover but Dorris needs her salary to feed her kids? Fuck off Dorris

To be fair to the chairman the decision to reduce contracts for the playing staff is not his to make. That decision must come from the PFA in consultation with the EPL.

I know players on millions a year who do not live within their means. They are mortgaged to the hilt and pay out of pocket for everything - cash for cars, cash for schools, cash for first class flights, etc. They don't live in the same world as you and me. A pay cut could have major ramifications for certain players and their families.

I also know spouses who won't want to see their spending power diminished to help the regular staff. They do not have the emotional tie to their husband's club they way we do as fans. They have to agree to the cut too.

I know our club and Newcastle is being lambasted in the press right now, but all other clubs will go through the same process if this pandemic goes on much longer. By all reports Daniel Levy has taken a pay cut, so he is playing his part. I would assume the PFA will follow suit and if not they will be misreading the mood of the country. However, see my points above as to why they have to take their cue from their members.

Daniel Levy could freeze his pay forever and still never have to worry about anything again. Instead he’s pushed the costs of the 8th richest club in the world on to the government. Even my employer isn’t doing that

I imagine other clubs are waiting for the players to take a cut first as this is a hideous look and we deserve to be lambasted. And the guilt tripping about spending money on players is a lovely touch

We have become a bank with a football club on the side. And some people on here seem to like supporting a bank

At first I thought it wasn't, but then it sort of looked like it was?
Anyway
If someone making 400k a month doesn't live within their means, then sorry but fucking adjust. Get a Thermomix and start planning your weekly menu for 100 quid.

So many people bothered about the finances of the club in here and other places.

At the rate we're going we'll be lucky to see any football in the next 6 months.

Some of you and your sense of perspective is so fucking warped you'll continue to grind your teeth over something really REALLY fucking trivial in the grander scheme of things.

If you dislike the man and the company and what he/they stand for this much, this is the exact moment to pull your money from the club to make your point rather than making useless snide remarks on a forum about the people who run the club.

I think people like you are the problem mate. Blind to the world as long as you be making bank, picking one side and sticking to it religiously regardless of right and wrong. The modern Brexit mentality of looking after yourself

I’m typically a Levy supporter but I’m balanced. He does good things and bad things, and this is a silly. It looks terrible, and the only other club to do it is Newcastle, which kind of says everything you need to know. This isn’t about finances, it’s about society at large.

I would say I’m NOT interested in the club’s finances (“there used to be a football club over there” etc). But in lieu of ever winning anything, or even threatening to anymore, all we’ve got are those sweet sweet balance sheets. Seriously kill me now. The pulling of spend has been happening quite naturally thanks

One of these days the tv rights bubble is going to pop and they’ll need the fans again and they’ll look round and they’ll all be gone except for the likes of you in your Levy t-shirts, like MAGA hats. It will be quite the sight

For a start I don't give the club my money mate.

I can appropriate praise and blame when someone is deserving of it as well.

The man is doing what he is paid to do.

No idea about all the MAGA bollocks, not my politics.

Those that are now in furlough still have an income, there are many who don't.

Well then I really don’t get what your issue is with criticism?

What he is paid to do is not always of benefit to the fans. Identifying this and pointing it out should not be met with derision but regularly is.

Furlough income is 80% up to 2.5k per month, Rather than paying the other 20%, and accepting the 80% of help offered, they cut everyone’s salaries by 20%, so they pay nothing unless you earned over 3.1k a month. For Levy and the directors this will not affect them at all. For Doris, she’s 20% worse off, and will have to go through a government application process to even get that. And all before our 200k a week footballers have lost a penny.

You can always find companies who are doing things worse, that’s not much of an ambition. But we are only the second club to do it after Newcastle. That’s the company we keep. Just like charging extortionate fees for mascot appearances (all other top 6 teams let them do it for free), most expensive tickets etc etc.

It’s cool if you want to support a bank. I’m losing interest in it. I want to support a football club and all the community aspects that used to represent
