Seem like a re-run from a few years back when Spurs actually were interested in him. He's not the player he used to be and now he's not even a regular at Lyon. And he certainly isn't what Spurs are looking for a LB.

Tottenham Hotspur are targeting Brazilian left back for January move

German website 4-4-2 has reported that Tottenham Hotspur are targeting Lyon’s Michel Bastos. They have said that Spurs are showing interest in the Brazilian international and that a €10m bid could be tabled in the January transfer window. The 29 year old can play either left back or left wing and comes with a wealth of Champions League experience.
The player is contracted to Lyon until 2015 but if Tottenham were to offer a large enough bid then a deal could be done. A deal will also depend on the poor relationship between the two clubs after the transfer of Hugo Lloris from Lyon to Tottenham in the last transfer window. Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy was criticised by the Lyon hierarchy for the way he conducted himself in the negotiations for the French goalkeeper. The transfer was therefore only completed in the last few hours of the deadline.
This isn't the first time that Tottenham have been linked with signing Bastos. The Metro, amongst others, reported last year that Harry Redknapp was interested in bringing the player in during the 2011 January window after failing in his attempts the previous summer. At the time a figure of £22m was quoted for the player but nothing materialised. The Brazilian was also linked with moves to Fulham and Liverpool in the last transfer window.
Bastos has been with Lyon since joining from French rivals Lille in 2009. His performances for Lyon have helped getting him recognition with the Brazilian national team and he made his debut in 2009 against England in Brazil's 1-0 win in Qatar. To date he has made 10 appearances for Brazil and was a member of the 2010 South Africa World Cup squad.

It is pretty interesting how limited the options are at LB.

Just not that many that are available or worthy of a hefty fee.

A few places are suggesting that Cashley won't sign a new contract and will be off in the summer and that the Chavs will go after Disco Benny. Obviously they can fuck right off, but if that was the case then we'd be in the market for a new left back.

I'd happily sell them disco...... For 25 million.

Or, we can do them a swapsie deal: Benny for Mata. Seems fair.;)
Well actually they have currently for next season the following AM's and not all of them will play so us signing one of them wouldnt be insane if we were willing to sell disco for a hefty price
AM's/wingers:Hazard, Oscar, Mata, Marin, Moses, De Bruyne, Piazon, Josh and Mikeal is a converted AM
Of those players I would happily take De Bruyne and/or Piazon, the Oscar signing was done imo just to piss us off imo as they have talented players there

I think Marin is a pretty talented guy as well. But, apart from the ones you mentioned, Marin would be the other I'd add to that list.

If they want BAE that bad, they will have to pay the price we want. It's that simple. They know that, we know that, so if they want to sweeten a deal with a player-for-player + cash swap then we can probably figure something out.

One of the articles about this mentioned £10 million. But this is Chelsea, so we should at least double it...

I actually don't think that's such a crazy thought.

Add on to that that there really is limited options in the transfer market at LB. It's hard to come up with a list of about 5 guys who could be had that could provide an upgrade to BAE.

What's not a crazy thought - £10 million or the doubling?

I suppose it rather depends on how highly Chelsea rate Bertrand - if Cole strops off somewhere else in January, are they going to be happy to stick with Bertrand and develop him or are they going to panic and blow a ridiculous amount of cash on Benny/ Baines?

The doubling (or at least a substantial bump in valuation).

And, since this is Chelsea, I'm thinking the blowing of money sounds right up their alley.
