Seem like a re-run from a few years back when Spurs actually were interested in him. He's not the player he used to be and now he's not even a regular at Lyon. And he certainly isn't what Spurs are looking for a LB.
Tottenham Hotspur are targeting Brazilian left back for January move
German website 4-4-2 has reported that Tottenham Hotspur are targeting Lyon’s Michel Bastos. They have said that Spurs are showing interest in the Brazilian international and that a €10m bid could be tabled in the January transfer window. The 29 year old can play either left back or left wing and comes with a wealth of Champions League experience.
The player is contracted to Lyon until 2015 but if Tottenham were to offer a large enough bid then a deal could be done. A deal will also depend on the poor relationship between the two clubs after the transfer of Hugo Lloris from Lyon to Tottenham in the last transfer window. Tottenham’s chairman Daniel Levy was criticised by the Lyon hierarchy for the way he conducted himself in the negotiations for the French goalkeeper. The transfer was therefore only completed in the last few hours of the deadline.
This isn't the first time that Tottenham have been linked with signing Bastos. The Metro, amongst others, reported last year that Harry Redknapp was interested in bringing the player in during the 2011 January window after failing in his attempts the previous summer. At the time a figure of £22m was quoted for the player but nothing materialised. The Brazilian was also linked with moves to Fulham and Liverpool in the last transfer window.
Bastos has been with Lyon since joining from French rivals Lille in 2009. His performances for Lyon have helped getting him recognition with the Brazilian national team and he made his debut in 2009 against England in Brazil's 1-0 win in Qatar. To date he has made 10 appearances for Brazil and was a member of the 2010 South Africa World Cup squad.
