Tottenham scouts ran the rule over FC Basle forward Mohamed Salah during the Swiss team's Europa League tie against Chelsea.

The lightning-quick Egyptian impressed over both legs of their Europa League quarter final and Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is contemplating a move this summer.

But Salah wasn't on top form on Thursday night against Rafa Benitez's side and was taken off in the 78th minute.

Salah, 20, who won Most Promising African Talent last year, has already attracted attention from Bundesliga clubs with his speed and poise on the ball.

The only flaw has been his finishing with Basle coach Murat Yakin admitting: 'If Mohamed could score as well, he would not be here any more.'

Tottenham will take that into account with Basle looking for £10million for a player who has scored six times in 33 games.

Just posted by the Daily Mail/Fail.

I know it's a lame link, but it's a point of discussion and if we were ever going to be interested, after what he did to us, we probably would be now.

I would hope we evaluate players a lot longer than just on games against us. As I recall Gomes caught our eye when he played against us and I think we rushed a decision on that because we allowed his games to over impress us

I can't say I watch Swiss football to say this player is bad but though against us he looked quick and dangerous it doesn't look as though he has really set that league alight

I didn't think he was as good as everyone made out when we played them

If you are right and quite possibly you are, what does that say about Beni as a defensive full back?

It says a lot about how poorly we dealt with their front three, that goes from BAE to the CBs, Naughton, Parker and our wingers.

He's fast, that's it. He has a terrible touch and no composure. Would rather have Townsend.

6 goals in 33 games isn't really what we're looking for. We don't need to be spending £10m on a player who is more Clint Dempsey than Clint Dempsey.

I read a quote somewhere from the coach that went along the lines of "if he could finish, he wouldn't be playing for FC Basel" which suggests he's not very good in front of goal.

He's all pace...as nicdic says above.

I'd pass.

Just about to post this. Would be a decent wide forward in a front 3 but I'd rather go with Townsend, for a number of reasons, but also because I think his upside is better tbh.

Not quite up to what we should be looking to bring in at this time. Worth keeping tabs on him over the next few years though.
