I can't remember the last time he made any meaningful contribution to a game.

Forty five minutes against Ajax a few seasons ago?

A bit hard to make meaningful contributions when you’ve been out of the team with injuries and have just returned to the starting line up and are playing with discomfort

Might be good for us as he's been understandably below his own standards this season, but feel for Lucas obviously. Gil might get some more 20-30 min spells from the bench and hopefully a start before the WC.

Let's face it he was poor the other night.

If Conte plays him, then he's fit enough to play.

Also I agree he was poor but feel there are justifiable reasons behind it

when players are out of the team for a while we often expect them to slot in at the same level as those playing regularly but this is an unreasonable expectation imo.

we need to be a bit more patient with all our squad when they come in after not much game time
